R. S. Bynum - Memorial
R. S. Bynum was born in McDowell County N,. C. in December 1850 and grew
up near Winston, graduating with high honors from Trinity College in 1871.
After studying law under Judge Pearson, Chief Justice of the North Carolina
Supreme Court, he adopted that profession. After a short time in practice
in that state he moved to Ellis County, Texas in January 1874 where he continued
the practice of law.
In June 1876 he married Miss Sarah Bridges of Waxahachie . The marriage
was short lived since he died June 30, 1879, after an illness of some eight
months.
Modest in manner, kind and affectionate in disposition, he had a
host of friends and acknowledged a peer - if not superior. As a public
official (county attorney) he was prompt, efficient and a devout worshipper
at the shrine of duty.
He was a loving son and brother, an affectionate and provident husband
and father. His last words were of mother, wife and babies
to whome we extend the most heartfelt sympathy.
