W. F. Proctor Dies at College Station
WAS FIRST MAN EMPLOYED IN FARM DEMONSTRATION WORK IN UNITED STATES
The Deceased Has Often Visited Waxahachie in the Interest of the Demonstration Work
College Station, Tex. Jan. 17, 1916. W. F. Proctor, state agent
in charge of farm demonstration work in Texas, died suddenly at his home
here this morning. He had been slightly ill for the last few days but
the serious nature of his illness was not suspected. While dressing
this morning, he became very ill and died within a few minutes of heart
failure.
Mr Proctor was the first man to be employed as a demonstration agent in
agriclture in the United States. He received his appointment in 1903
when the government first entered that field. Later, when the office
of state agent in charge of this work was created, Mr Proctor was appointed
to that position. He and his family came to A&M College four years
ago.
Mr. Proctor was regarded as one of the ablest of the farm demonstration
officials in the south.
He had a wide circle of acquaintances and friends
in Texas and had often visited Ellis County, taking an active interest in
the demonstration work here.
He leaves a wife and six cildren. The body wil be sent to Kosse,
the old home, Wednesday for burial.
