Shackelford, a lunatic, died yesterday afternoon in the hospital ward
at the county jail. Shackelford was formerly a farmer in the Templeton
neighborhood. Some few months ago, he became insane and on Feb. 6 was
brought to Waxahachie for trial on a writ of lunacy. A jury adjudged
him to be of unsound mind and recommended that he be sent to one of the state
insane asylums. He was placed in the county jail to await a vacancy
in one of the asylums and soon thereafter was taken ill. His condition
continued to grow worse until death came to his relief yesterday. Members
of his family were with him when he breathed his last. The body was
immediately prepared for burial and was taken to the Boren grave yard late
yesterday evening for interment.
