Mrs. Katie Wharton

Mrs. Katie Wharton, 72, a resident of Greenville since 1919, died in a
local hospital at 12:33 p.m. Saturday shortly after suffering a stroke.
Mrs. Wharton collapsed in the backyard of her home in Mineral Heights
just before noon. She was found by a neighbor, who called for an ambulance.
Mrs. Wharton died shortly after being admitted to the hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Gray-Sorrells Chapel,
with Dr. Richard H. Poss officiating. Burial will be in Sullivan Cemetery
near Campbell. The body will rest at the funeral home.
Mrs. Wharton was born at Waxahachie on April 11, 1879, the daughter of
John and Maud Conner Coleman. She was married to J. R. Wharton on April 18,
1900, in Waxahachie, and they came to Hunt County in 1913. Until 1919, when
they moved to Greenville, they lived at Campbell.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, John C. Wharton of this city; three daughters,
Mrs. Ann Kelber of New York City, Mrs. Maud Klund of Dallas and Mrs. Ella
Hooker of West Columbia, Tex.; two sisters, four brothers and seven
grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death on February 27, 1944.
