These photos were in the possesion of Attia Murphy Gandy Arnold, my grandmother. The subject of interest to us is a young man named Eugene Lawson Gandy. His location in each picture is noted on its back. The only way we know this is by comparing this picture to other known pictures of him. He was born 31 Jan 1916 in Texas and died of typhoid fever 8 Apr 1935 in Kaufman County, TX. He is buried in the Pyle Prairie Cemetery in Lively, Kaufman County, TX. He is found on the 1930 Census for Ellis County in the household with his Step-father Elbert Leroy (Lee) Arnold, mother Attia Virginia (Pat) Murphy Gandy Arnold, half-sister Mary Elizabeth (Maribeth) Arnold, grandparents Henry L. Murphy and Mary (Molly) Hill Murphy. He is found on the 1920 census for Red River County in the household with his Murphy grandparents and his mother then named Attia Gandy. His mother is not listed as a widow. Eugene’s father was known as Frank Gandy, but the marriage license shows either T. H. Gandy or F. H. Gandy. Mary Elyzabeth Arnold was my mother. She was born 3 Apr 1927 supposedly in Italy, TX., but we cannot find a record of her birth. She died 21 Jun 1982 in Jasper County, TX. She was married to Norman Stewart Martindale. These folks are located in Precinct 4, Ellis County, 1920 census. They moved to Jasper County after Eugene's death in 1935. Elbert Leroy Arnold died in 1990 at age 101 and is buried in the Little Hope Cemetery in Jasper County. He was born 1889 in Red River County TX. We are looking for the following info: 1. Birth record of Mary Elyzabeth "Maribeth" Arnold which was supposedly in Italy, TX. Born 3 Apr 1927 (my mother) 2. Any info on Miles and Jincey Murphree... Miles last found on 1850 Blount County Ala census with Jincy. Jincy last found on 1860 Leon County TX census without Miles but children included a one yr old child. Their child Henry L. Murphy is on the 1930 Ellis county census with Elbert Leroy Arnold. Regards Judi |
