Class of Miss Lacy Braden Contributed by Betty Clingman |

I have just found an old photograph taken in 1898 on the school steps in Ennis. It is in pretty bad condition but appears to be the class (ALL GIRLS) of Miss Lacy Braden. In addition to Miss Lacy Braden, the following names are written on the back of the photo. Some of the names are difficult to make out, so use your imagination. A (?) next to the given name or surname indicates a definite question as to whether or not I transcribed that name correctly.
Amanda Chapman* * Listed in the 1900 Census of Ennis, Ellis County, Texas ** Reita Fisher, my mother's mother, would have been 14 years old at the time this picture was taken, so I imagine the other girls were about the same age within a year or two.
Do any of you connect with any of these young ladies? Contact Betty Clingman if you do. If you can identify the school, please send a message to Rob so that this page can be updated. |

On the back of the picture, you will notice that there are markings by most of the names. At some point my grandmother put an X by the classmates who had married and a check mark by those who had died. I have no idea when she did this. It could have been any time between 1898 when the picture was taken and 1941 when my grandmother died. She also noted whether the person was in 6th or 7th grade when the picture was taken. |
