Oak Grove Store I grew up in the Oak Grove community and lived just across the creek from the store. The store burned several years ago as did a cotton gin that was across the road from the store. I remember the store as a gathering place for the old timers of the community to play dominoes. When I was a kid, whenever I could come by a nickle we could go to the store and buy a Dr Pepper, and for another nickle we could buy a little round box of peanuts to go with it. |

Oak Grove Methodist Church This picture was taken in the summer of 1943. The only ones I can identify for sure are my own family: At far left is my dad, J D Gray holding his daughter Sallie Nan Gray. In the front row the children are from left to right: Robert Gray, Jerry Gray, Charles T Gray and myself, J D Gray, Jr. In the center near the rear, the lady looking to her right is my mother Sarah Ione Keener Gray. Behind her (with just eyes showing) is my oldest brother William Carl Gray. In front of my mother is Mrs Emmert. I remember Mrs Emmert as she cared for me when I was an infant with diphtheria. |
