The Forrest Family
Jonathan Forrest and Susan
Patterson of Marshall County, Tenn. had seven children: Joseph F.; Car; Matilda P., m/1 A. E. Lane and came to
Texas after his death where she m/2 F. Vanlear; Thomas N. (died in CW);
Caledonia (d. aged 14); America (d. Memphis); Mary J. (d. Texas aged
sixteen). Jonathan Forrest died in 1841 in Mississippi and his
widow died in Texas in 1890.
Carr Forest came to Ellis County in 1855 first raising sheep and
then establishing a merecantile business, with the community around it
called Forreston. Carr Forest married Virginia Sims, a daughter of
John D. Sims and they had five children: Caladonia, Alice, Lee V.,
Thomas C. and Sims. Carr Forrest was a Mason and member of the
Methodist Episcopal Church. He served in the 19th Texas Cavalry during
the Civil War. After the War, he again was postmaster at Chamber's
Creek. He and his wife are buried in the Forreston Cemetery.
