Richard Vickery

Richard Vickery was born in 1850 in Devonshire, England, the oldest in
a family of 10 children. At age 17, he went to London where worked
for two years as a grocer's clerk. His father died in 1886 and his
mother a year later [names not given]. Richard immigrated to America
in 1869, living in Michigan for six years before moving to Ennis, Ellis
County.
He married Nellie Bennett in Michigan in 1876 (she a native of Enfield,
New Hampshire). They had eight children. [not named]
Mr Vickery was a large land owner, having farms in both Ellis and
Tarrant counties as well as property in Waxahachie and Fort Worth. He was
the largest owner in what is known as the Glenwood addition in Fort Worth,
a director in Waxahachie National Bank; large stock holder and Vice President
of Poly, a street car line in Fort Worth.
