Obituary for Martha Jane McCaig Harp
Funeral services for
Mrs. Martha Jane Harp, who at 96 was one
of Garza County's oldest residents, were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday of last
week in the First Baptist Church, of which she was a member.
Mrs. Harp died about noon Tuesday of last week in Twin Cedar Nursing Home here, where she had made her home for the last seven years.
Born Martha Jane McCaig on Oct 16, 1871, in Alabama, she was married to George Washington Harp, the couple moving to Post in 1934. Mr. Harp died in 1940.
Mrs. Harp broke her hip when she was 85 years old, after which she made her home here with her daughter, Mrs. Percy Printz, until moving to Twin Cedar Nursing home when it was opened.
Survivors are the daughter of Post; another daughter, Mrs.. Maude Palmer of Clarendon; three sons, O.L. of Lamesa, Frank of Lake Jackson, and G.C. Harp of New York City; 32 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 40 great-great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Joe Vernon, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiatied at the funeral services. Burial was in Terrace Cemetery under the direction of Hudman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Pete Walls, DeWitt Caylor, D.E. Morris, Don Henderson, Stanley McMillan, Ray Norman, Leonard Phemister and Vern Medlin.
