The Spanish students organized into four Spanish I class
division Clubs and two Spanish II division Clubs this year,
and all these divisions were united into one main big club
called "Los Vigorosos." This club is affiliated
with the national club, Instituto de las Espanas.
Los Vigorosos have been very active this year. A Spanish
program was presented in assembly January 22. Parts of this
program were presented at the P.T. A. and the Lion's Club.
A Spanish election was held in March for the selection of
the most beautiful senorita and the most handsome senor.
The most beautiful senorita selected was Evelyn Laird. She
selected as her maids for the Coronation and Fiesta on April
5th, the next two highest in the race, Nelwyn Dodson and
Mary Estes Nash. Buddy Ponder was chosen as the most handsome
senor and his
escorts were J. S. Stevens and Neel Olson who were the two
boys next highest in the contest. During the day of April
5th, Pan-American Union programs are held in all classes.
Spanish week was celebrated from April 22-26, commemorating
the great Spanish , writer, Cervantes. An award certificate
was given to the one who wrote the best theme on Cervantes.
Medals were awarded at the end of the year to the most excellent
student in Spanish I and to the most excellent student in
Spanish II. A great deal of interest was professed and the
decisions were difficult to make. Much interesting material
was received through correspondence from Spanish-speaking
countries, Instituti de Espanos, and the Pan-American Union. |
