Publisher Honored - Governor John Connally displays a
sign denoting the redesignation of Highway 149 as Estes
Parkway in special ceremonies here in 1967. Participating
were: Mayor D.A. Benton; W.W. Potter of Tyler; Harry Mosley,
City Secretary; State Senator Jack Strong; Connally; City
Commissioner Jim Witt; State Representative John Allen;
county Commissioner Bill Owens; Gregg County Judge Henry
Atkinson; City Commissioner John Murphy. Estes had urged
better roads in East Texas throughout the years and was
responsible for the four lane Longview - Gladewater Highway
when wider roads were rare.
