1871-2000 Longview Newspapers The very first Longview newspaper was the Longview News, frist issue being dated September 1, 1871. It was edited by the former governor of Texas, Stephen H. Hogg, and was a tri-weekly, three colom folio. In 1872 a weekly publication followed, The Texas New Era. It was published by Rev. J.L. Terry and reflected a strong interest in labor of Rev. Terry. The cost to subscribe to The Texas New Era was $1.50 a year. Over the years numerous papers have been in Longview, including the following: The Longview Weekly Reporter (The Daily Times-Clarion was sold to the Longview Printing Co.
and later combined into the present day Longview News-Journal.) |
