Thomas Eugene Goings 

CENTER — Services for Thomas E. “Gene” Goings of Longview were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center. Pastor Russell Craft of Longview Christian Fellowship was the officiant. Burial was in Oaklawn Memorial Park in Center. Mr. Goings died Sunday, July 28, 2002, at his home in Longview after a brave battle with brain cancer. 

Mr. Goings was born July 10, 1950, in Crestview, Fla., to Hubert and Margurite Bass Goings. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam as an aircraft mechanic. He married Margaret Ann McDaniel on Aug. 18, 1972, in Center. Mr. Goings was a member of Longview Christian Fellowship and, until his illness, had worked as a quality control inspector for Everlite Inc. 

Mr. Goings was preceded in death by his father, Hubert Goings of Montgomery, Ala.; his grandmother, Arlie Vae Hendericks of Center; and a brother-in-law, George McDaniel of Center. 

Mr. Goings is survived by his wife, Margaret Ann Goings of Longview; one son, James Neil Goings of Nacogdoches; his stepmother, Ariette Goings of Millbrook, Ala.; his mother and stepfather, Margurite and Harold Tetrick of Garland; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Alice and Johnnie Hall of Center. He is also survived by two brothers, Stan Goings and his wife, Tina, of Longview and Don Goings and his wife, Virginia, of San Antonio; three sisters, Brenda Joiner and her husband, Aaron, of Marbury, Ala., Carol Green and her husband, Jeff, of Millbrook, Ala., and Catherine Goings of Montgomery, Ala.; a half brother, Rodney Tetrick, and two half sisters, Nancy Tetrick and Karen Bouton, all of Dallas; his sister-in-law, RenŽ McDaniel of Center; a brother-in-law, Martin McDaniel, formerly of Center; two stepsisters-in-law, Carol Looney and her husband, Gary, of Lufkin and Nancy Keeling and her husband, Gordon, of DeBerry; special uncle Alton Dry and his wife, Jean, of Joaquin; aunt and uncle Jeri and Kenneth Campbell; and several other aunts and uncles. He is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Pallbearers were Wayne Sherrod, Marvin Snow, Darrell McDaniel, Brad Hinton, Larry Hinton and Kenneth Campbell Jr.

Services for Bennie Jean McMichael, 69, of Longview are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Rader Funeral Home Chapel with burial at 1 p.m. Sunday in Sealy Cemetery in Sealy. Ms. McMichael died Wednesday in a Houston hospital.

TIMPSON — Services for Sybil Lee Ramsey, 89, of Longview will be held at 1 p.m. today at Tennessee Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jonathan Jehorek officiating. Burial will be in Tennessee Cemetery. Arrangements are by Taylor Funeral Home. Mrs. Ramsey, a member of First Presbyterian Church of Longview and a beauty operator, died Tuesday

Frankie Irene McLane 

Services for Frankie Irene McLane, 54, of DeKalb will be held at 2 p.m. today, Aug. 2, 2002, at Welch Funeral & Memorial Center Garden Court with Robert Sparkman officiating. Burial in Memory Park Cemetery will follow. Ms. McLane died in a Dallas hospital. 

Ms. McLane was born June 18, 1948, to Francis P. and Ethel Irene Armentrout Eckhardt in Houston. She was a licensed vocational nurse and a Baptist. Ms. McLane spent a lifetime serving others through nursing, and she will always be remembered as a loving mother and mimi. She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Eckhardt. 

Ms. McLane is survived by her mother, Irene Eckhardt of Longview; three daughters, Amanda, Heather and Shelley, all of DeKalb; five grandchildren; two sisters, Dolores Porter of Friendswood and Jayne Sparkman of Longview; and several nieces and nephews.

Virginia Marie Bemis 

Memorial services for Virginia Marie Bemis, 78, of Longview will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, 2002, at Rosewood Park Mausoleum with the Rev. Randall Bryant officiating. Mrs. Bemis was born Sept. 14, 1923, in Ashtabula, Ohio, to Arthur and Thelma Armstrong. She died Sunday afternoon, July 28, 2002, at her residence. 

Mrs. Bemis worked for LTV Corporation as a secretary, and she was a member of the Methodist church. She was also an avid bridge player, and she and her husband were named Upshur County Outstanding Senior Citizen Couple in 1991. 

Mrs. Bemis is survived by her husband of 58 years, Floyd E. Bemis of Longview; her sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas and LeAnn Bemis, Bradley and Mary Ann Bemis and Mark and Sharon Bemis, all of Longview; five grandsons; and three great-granddaughters.

KILGORE — Services for Doris J. London, 67, of Longview will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Miracle Tabernacle Church with Bishop John L. Lawson officiating. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery, directed by Craig Funeral Home. Survivors include four daughters, Janet Menefee, Karen Odum, Shanta Washington and Jenetta Carter.

KILGORE — Services for Billie Maydell Burge Haney, 85, of Schulenburg, formerly of Kilgore, are set for 10 a.m. Saturday at Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Kilgore with the Rev. Robert Besser officiating. Burial will be in Kilgore Cemetery. Mrs. Haney, a Methodist, died Wednesday in a Weimer hospital.

Ira C. Wells 

Graveside services for Ira C. Wells, 93, formerly of Kilgore, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, in Lakeview Memorial Gardens under the direction of Lakeview Funeral Home. 

Mr. Wells was born July 12, 1909, in Mayesville, Ark. He died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002, in a Longview nursing center. 

Mr. Wells was a pioneer in the East Texas “Oil Patch.” In October of 1930, he established the first oil field service store in Overton. He serviced wells in East Texas as well as West Texas. After retiring, he worked as a volunteer in the Kilgore Oil Museum and donated not only his time but numerous pictures and memorabilia to the museum. He believed in maintaining the heritage of the East Texas Oil Boom. Mr. Wells also enjoyed fishing. 

Survivors include his son and his wife, Michael and Kathy Wells of Longview; his grandson and his wife, Jason and Melissa Wells of Silsbee; a granddaughter and her husband, Adrianne and William Buck Taylor of Louisville, Ky.; and three great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Jacob and Samuel Taylor. 

Mr. Wells’ wife, Geneva Chandler Wells, and two brothers, Carson and Harold Wells, preceded him in death.

Hubert Cecil Hobbs 

Services for Hubert Cecil Hobbs, 91, of Longview will be held at noon Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Rader Funeral Home Chapel of Longview with the Rev. Jay McCasland and Dick Lindsay officiating. Burial will follow in Linden City Cemetery in Linden. Mr. Hobbs died Saturday morning, Sept. 14, 2002, in a Longview nursing facility. 

Mr. Hobbs was born July 8, 1911, in Granbury to Robert and Pearl Hobbs. A Longview resident since 1950, Mr. Hobbs worked in maintenance for Gregg County at the Courthouse and was a member of Northside Baptist Church. 

A loving husband, father and grandfather, Mr. Hobbs was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Alene Hobbs, and three brothers. He is survived by his wife, Helen Hobbs of Longview; one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Markham of Hemphill; one son and daughter-in-law, Clifford Dean and Betty Hobbs of Longview; his stepchildren, Glenda Gibson of Hallsville and Maurice and Virginia Morley of Weatherford, Okla.; two sisters, Hazel Simmons of Fort Worth and Winnie Doss of Atlanta; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

GLADEWATER — Services for Samuel Alfonso “Sam” Moore, 93, of Gladewater will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Charles Long officiating. Arrangements are by Croley Funeral Home of Gladewater. Mr. Moore, a former mayor of Gladewater, died Saturday.

Services for Billy Gene Vanderslice, 68, of Longview will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Welch Funeral and Memorial Center Garden Court with the Rev. Ted White officiating. Burial will be in Gum Springs Cemetery. Mr. Vanderslice died Monday in a local hospital.

Eliot E. Willard 

Graveside services for Eliot E. Willard, 83, of Longview will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Jim Rust will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Lakeview Funeral Home.
 

Mr. Willard was born Oct. 10, 1918, in Aly, Ark. He died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, in a local nursing center. Before retiring, he had worked as a mechanic for LeTourneau Inc. 

Survivors include his wife, Neza Tucker Willard; one son, Charles Willard of Longview; one daughter, Kathy Caron of Longview; one grandson, Jeff Willard of Longview; and three granddaughters and their husbands, Michelle and Rick Kane and Jennifer and Stephen Thompson, all of Longview, and Tiffany and Jon Deonarine of College Station. Mr. Willard was also blessed with six great-grandchildren; one brother, John Willard of Mannsville, Okla.; and two sisters, Hattie Monroe and Dottie Phillips, both of Ardmore, Okla.

Kenneth W. Jordan 

KILGORE — Graveside services for Kenneth W. Jordan, 71, of Kilgore will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, in Hickory Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Earl W. “Buddy” Duggins officiating. Mr. Jordan passed away Saturday afternoon, Sept. 14, 2002, at his home in Kilgore. 

Mr. Jordan was born Dec. 10, 1930, in Lamesa to G.M. and Irene Jordan. He was a longtime member of the Forest Home Baptist Church. Mr. Jordan owned and operated Bee Line Well Service Inc. in Kilgore and was instrumental in the merger of Bee Line Well Services Inc. and Tetra Applied Technologies, L.P. of Houston. He had attended the Gaston School and had served in the U.S. Navy. 

Mr. Jordan is survived by his wife, Edalene Jordan, and two sons, Lane Jordan and Kenneth W. Jordan Jr., all of Kilgore; four grandchildren, Kenneth W. Jordan III of Plano, Lane Jordan Jr. of Denton, Kalli Jordan of Kilgore and Kathlene Jordan of Waco; and two sisters, Billie Currie of Joliet, Ill., and Jo Terrier of Port Arthur. 

Mr. Jordan was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Dorothy Goodwin; and one brother, George Jordan.

KILGORE — Services for Lucille Philpot Smith, 87, of Liberty City are set for 10 a.m. Tuesday at Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Kilgore with Leamon G. Keele officiating. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery. Mrs. Smith died Saturday. She was born Nov. 2, 1914, in the Joy community in Smith County.

Myrtle W. Ales 

Graveside services for Myrtle W. Ales, 80, of Porter will be held at Lakeview Memorial Gardens at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002. Arrangements are under the direction of Lakeview Funeral Home. Pastor Dean C. Blackwell will officiate.

Mrs. Ales was born Jan. 20, 1922, in Wausau, Fla. She died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, in a nursing home in Porter. She had owned a restaurant, Myrt’s Coffee Shop, in Gladewater, before retiring. 

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Bounds of Porter and Christine Newman of Longview; three sons, Roy Ales of Joliet, Ill., Henry Ales of Minooka, Ill., and Harvey Ales of Longview; one brother, Ernest Walsingham of Perry, Fla.; and one sister, Lillie Bell Walsingham of Mariana, Fla. Mrs. Ales was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Ales; one son, James Ales; and one grandson, Joshua Ales. She was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

KILGORE — Services for Annie Marie Manning of Kilgore are set for 11 a.m. today at Westview Church of Christ with Brother John Smith officiating. Burial in Pirtle Cemetery will be directed by Cunningham Funeral Home. Ms. Manning was born April 6, 1956. She died Sunday at a Tyler medical center. She was an employee of Kilgore Crisis Center.

Robbie Joe Barberee 

Services for Robbie Joe Barberee, 52, of Longview were held Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, at Lakeview Memorial Gardens with the Rev. John Sewell officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of East Texas Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. Barberee was born May 31, 1950, in Overton to Earnest and Earline Bailey. He passed away Sunday, Sept. 15, 2002. 

Mr. Barberee was a self-employeed brick mason and enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. Survivors include a daughter, Angel Bailey; a brother, Jerry Barberee and his wife, Kay, of New Boston; a sister, Carol Pasche and her husband, Lawrence, of Longview; and one grandson, Daynon Welch. Mr. Barberee was preceded in death by his parents.

Ocie Lee Dearion Jr. 

GLADEWATER — A celebration of the life and legacy of Ocie Lee Dearion Jr. will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at Rising Star Church of God in Christ with Superintendent Melton Timmons and Elder Harry Sutphen officiating. Interment will follow in Red Rock Cemetery under the direction of Dearion & Davis Funeral Parlor. Mr. Dearion, 73, was killed Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, in an automobile accident in Bakersfield, Calif. 

He was born Dec. 25, 1928, in the Red Rock community to Ocie Sr. and Nellie Bell Webb Dearion. He received his education at Weldon High School and retired from the U.S. Navy. At the time of his death, he was serving the Military Sealift Command stationed in San Diego. 

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Venus and Edgar Meredith of Oklahoma; one son, Victor Dean Dearion of Houston; one sister, Betty Jean Dearion Andrews of Fort Worth; four brothers, M.C., Bobby Coy and Roy Earl Dearion, all of Gladewater, and Billy Ray Dearion of Longview; one granddaughter, Reba Patrice Dearion, and one great-grandson, Austin Turner Dearion, both of Oklahoma; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Michael Aaron Craig Wellman 

Services for Aaron Wellman, 19, of Longview will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Services are entrusted to Welch Funeral & Memorial Center, 4619 Judson Road. Aaron died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002, in a local hospital. 

Aaron was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a student at Kilgore College. He was in the Olympic Development Program for soccer. He played soccer for the Dallas Comets and played soccer in Europe. Aaron was a great athlete and was loved by everyone who knew him. He will always be remembered as a wonderful son, brother and friend. 

Aaron is survived by his mother, Hariet Wellman; his father, Michael H. Wellman; his fiancee, Angie Stinson; his brothers, Robby Tucker and Peter Wellman; a sister, Mary Wellman; and his grandmother, Christine Bostic. All are of Longview. He is also survived by numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

Gary M. Tiner 

Gary M. Tiner, 50, of Gladewater died Friday morning, Sept. 6, 2002, at his residence after a brief battle with cancer. 

Mr. Tiner was born May 3, 1952, in Bastrop to Roland and Edna Kelley Tiner. He had been a resident of Gladewater for many years. Mr. Tiner served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. A truck driver for the past 20 years, Mr. Tiner had team driven with his wife for the past five years. He loved to ride in his boat. Mr. Tiner was a member of Brady Avenue Baptist Church. On July 29, 1974, Mr. Tiner married Mary Baxter Deutsch in Blanket. 

Mr. Tiner is survived by his wife of 28 years, Mary Tiner of Gladewater; 10 daughters, Julie Hinson of Longview, Anita Jackson of Baytown, Shelia Clark of New Diana, Dee Dee Deutsch of Gladewater, Lori Hudson of Foley, Ala., Connie Freeland of Brownwood, LaDonna Simon of Copperas Cove, Ava Stewart of Longview, Crystal Tiner of Gladewater, Jeannie Cervantes of Mount Pleasant; five sons, David Deutsch of Gladewater, Richard Deutsch and John Deutsch, both of Longview, Gary Michael Tiner II and Isiah Tiner, both of Gladewater; five brothers, Lloyd Tiner of Brownwood, Dennis Tiner of Fort Worth, Bruce Tiner of Brownwood, Hillous Tiner of Gladewater and Billy Tiner of Cisco; five sisters, Helen Hall of Brownwood, Janette Price of Proctor, Sharon Lear of Proctor, Melba Paul of Azle and Ava Stockwell of Baytown; his mother-in-law, Loren Ingham of Irving; 27 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. 

Services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, at Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bill Teague officiating. Interment followed in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

Nelagene ‘Jean’ Pool 

Services for Nelagene “Jean” Pool, 74, of Lake Cherokee will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Longview with Dr. Gary Orr officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery. Mrs. Pool died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, at her residence. 

She was born Sept. 20, 1927, in Lewisville, Ark., to William and Mary Pruitt Alexander. Mrs. Pool was a homemaker and had served as a secretary at the First Baptist Church of Camden, Ark. She had been a resident of Lake Cherokee for seven years and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church at Lakeport. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Pool, and a daughter, Jan Benson. She is survived by one daughter and her husband, Sandy and Hal Martin of Lake Cherokee; son-in-law Donald Benson of Gurdon, Ark.; eight grandchildren, Randy, Terry, Brandon, Chad, Holly and Chris Martin and Deanna and Donny Benson; six great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law and his wife, Clayton and Dru Pool of Swifton, Ark.; and several nieces and nephews. 

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Goldia Mae Prochaska 

KILGORE — Services for Goldia Mae Prochaska, 99, of FM 2011, Route 11, Longview, will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at the Danville Methodist Church in Kilgore with the Rev. Walter Magouyrk officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Cemetery. Arrangements are by Rader Funeral Home of Kilgore. Mrs. Prochaska passed away Monday, Sept. 16, 2002, in Longview. 

She was born June 26, 1903, in Montgomery, the daughter of Finnie and Etta McDonald. She received her teacher’s certification from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. She taught elementary school in Anauhac and Simonton. On Dec. 24, 1936, she married Frank Otto Prochaska in Houston. 

Mrs. Prochaska resided in Brookshire and Eldorado until moving to Gregg County in 1952, where she resided for more than half a century. She was a Cub Scout den mother in Eldorado, a member of the Samuel Paul Dinkins Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of Danville Methodist Church. She was a loving and devoted mother, wife and homemaker. 

Survivors include two sons, Frank Otto Prochaska Jr. and Charles David Prochaska, both of Houston; two grandsons, Chris Prochaska of New Orleans and Matthew Prochaska of Houston; a granddaughter, Rachel Prochaska of Houston; one brother, Charles S. McDonald of Tavares, Fla.; a niece, Gail McDonald of Austin; and a nephew, James Burton McDonald of Fredricksburg. 

She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Albert and James B. McDonald; and a sister, Juliet McDonald.

Charles A. Willis 

Services for Charles A. Willis, 58, of Longview will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, in Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel with Father Lincon of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Willis was born July 28, 1944, in Shreveport. He died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2002, in a local hospital.  In 1964, he graduated from North Little Rock High School in Arkansas. He was employed with Noble Security, and he served for 15 years in the National Guard. He enjoyed fishing and bowling, and he was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. 

Survivors include his sons, Tony and Craig Willis of Benton, Ark.; his parents, Charles and Betty Willis of Longview; one brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Elaine Willis of Longview; seven grandchildren; and one nephew.

Herman Smith 

KILGORE — Services for Herman Smith, 79, of Liberty City will be held at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 20, 2002, at Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Kilgore with the Rev. Bruce Wells officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Mr. Smith passed away Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, in a Longview hospital. 

He was born Jan. 15, 1923, in Gregg County, the son of J.W. and Rosalie Smith. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Marine Corps. He had worked for 33 years at Delta Drilling Co., where he retired as a foreman. 

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 61 years, Pauline Gatlin Smith of Liberty City; two daughters and their husbands, Nelda and John Allen of Liberty City and Earlan and John Ammons of New London; one sister, Delphine Jordan of Liberty City; one brother, Bobby Smith of Longview; four grandchildren, Rhonda Kirkpatrick of Crosbyton, Penny Pike and Jennifer Glover, both of Longview, and Justin Allen of Liberty City; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other loving family members. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include her children, Shon, Makesha and Syreeta; and siblings, Nathaniel, Graylyn, Kenneth, Mikki, Rose and Erica.

Ron Scott Shamburger 

Services for Ron Scott Shamburger, 30, of Longview will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at Macedonia Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Cochran officiating. Interment will follow in Hallsville Cemetery. 

Ron was born Nov. 11, 1971, in Amarillo to Dacell and Lynell Shamburger. He had lived in the area for 20 years and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and a student. 

He is survived by his parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Deena and Leonard Prater of Marietta, Ga.; a brother, Jeremy Shamburger of Longview; his paternal grandparents, Bobbie and Lee Shamburger of Winnsboro; his great-grandmother, Opal Ross of Winnsboro; his uncles, Ross Shamburger and his wife, D’Ann of Lubbock, Carey Shamburger and his wife, Paula, of Deer Park, Kyle Shamburger and his wife, Peggy, also of Deer Park, and Rex Shoulders and his wife, Lisa, of Sadler; and eight cousins.
