Selvyn Adams
Services for Selvyn Adams, 85, of Longview will be held at 10
a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at Welch Funeral & Memorial Center
Chapel, 4619 Judson Road, with Dr. Laney Johnson officiating.
Burial will follow at 2 p.m. Monday in East Memorial Gardens in
Texarkana, Ark., with Brother Wallace Edgar officiating. Mr. Adams
died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002, at his residence.
Mr. Adams had served in the National Guard and had worked as
a pumper in the petroleum industry. He was a member of Mobberly
Baptist Church and a Mason. Mr. Adams loved his children and grandchildren.
Mr. Adams is survived by his wife, Sue Adams of Longview; his
son, Ronald Selvyn Adams of Katy; his daughter, Bessie Susan Fruge
of Lafayette, La.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Peggy Ruth White
KILGORE — Services for Peggy Ruth White, 53, of Kilgore will
be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at the Church of the
Nazarene. Burial will follow in Kilgore Cemetery. Arrangements
are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. Mrs.
White died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, in Kilgore.
She was born April 2, 1949, in Atlanta. Peggy lived most of her
life in Kilgore. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene
and was employed by Southern Plastics in Kilgore.
Mrs. White is survived by her parents, Eldon and Mildred Leach
of Kilgore; three daughters, Robin Rogers and her husband, Mike,
of Overton, Angie Grimes and her husband, Stephen, of Kilgore
and Amy Heisel and her husband, Mark, of Lufkin; two brothers,
Jimmy Leach and his wife, Mary Lee, and Johnny Leach and his wife,
Judith, all of Kilgore; four grandchildren, Shelton, Dalton and
Hudson Rogers of Overton and Macy Grimes of Kilgore; and several
aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Edward ‘Bubba’ Robinson
Services for Edward “Bubba” Robinson will be held at 10 a.m.
Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at the Welch Funeral & Memorial Center,
4619 Judson Road, with the Rev. Jerry Turner officiating. Mr.
Robinson died Friday, Sept. 20. He is survived by his brother,
Roy; sisters, May Silvas and Annie Ruth Williams; and son, Claude
Robinson.

Annie Lou Wallace
Services for Annie Lou Wallace, 71, of Kilgore will be held at
2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at Corinth Baptist Church with
the Rev. John Q. Adams and Dr. S.L. Curry officiating. Burial
will be in Kilgore Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are under the
direction of Victory Funeral Services.

Ruth Elaine Gordon Jordan
Graveside services for Ruth Elaine Gordon Jordan, 82, of Longview
will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, in Grace Hill
Cemetery with Pastor Steve Cochran officiating. Mrs. Jordan died
Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at her daughter’s residence in Corsicana.
She was born June 17, 1920, in Longview to Charles and Anna Gordon
and had lived most of her life there. Mrs. Jordan was preceded
in death by her husband, Elbert B. Jordan.
She is survived by one son, Larry Jordan and his wife, Deborah,
of Atlanta, Ga.; one daughter, Candy Kirkwood of Corsicana; one
granddaughter, Keri Kirkwood; one grandson, Cory Kirkwood; her
stepgrandchildren, Cheryl Chamblee, Cassandra Outwater, Stephanie
Marlowe, Ralph Bowker and Norman Bowker; a sister, Cleo Huffman
of Longview; two brothers, Charles Gordon of Longview and Glenn
Gordon and his wife, Joyce, also of Longview; and numerous nieces
and nephews.

Garland ‘Mac’ McPherson
Services for Garland “Mac” McPherson, 56, of Hallsville will
be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at the Jay Valley Baptist
Church. Burial will follow in Memory Park Cemetery. Mr. McPherson
died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, in a Longview hospital.
He was born Nov. 1, 1945, in Longview and had lived here all
of his life. He worked in the oilfield and attended Jay Valley
Baptist Church.
Mr. McPherson is survived by his daughter, Tammy McPherson of
Longview; his sons and daughters-in-law, Dusty and Nicole McPherson
of Longview, Brandy and Stacie McPherson of Harleton, Clint and
Melissa McPherson of Hallsville, Nicklas and Becky Goen of Ore
City and Jefferey Goen of Hallsville; his mother, Loriece McPherson
of Hallsville; one brother and sister-in-law, Wehlan and Ann McPherson
of Hallsville; his grandchildren, Colby McPherson, Harley Goen,
Cheyenne Goen, Nickey “Rooster” Goen, Taylor Goen and Kelsey Goen;
his fiancee Diana Goen of Hallsville; his mother-in-law, Betty
Jester of Longview; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. McPherson was preceded in death by his father, Garland McPherson;
his wife, Peggy McPherson; and his father-in-law, Henry Jester.

Dorothy H. Johnson
Funeral services for Dorothy H. Johnson, 69, of Longview, will
be held at noon, Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002 at Mobberly Baptist Church
with Dr. Laney Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood
Park under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
She was born Dec. 27, 1932 in Lufkin to James and Effie Hubbard.
She passed away on Sunday morning, Sept. 22, 2002 in a Longview
hospital.
A Longview resident since 1957, she worked as a school teacher
in the Vocational Office for the Pine Tree Independent School
District. She belonged to several teachers organizations, including
T.S.T.A. and T.E.A. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Mobberly Baptist
Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the
"Praisingers" Choir.
A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she was preceded in death
by her parents, brother, James M. Hubbard, and her sister, Johnnie
Carlisle. She is survived by her husband, Roger Johnson of Longview;
daughters and sons-in-law, Connie Johnson Shaver and Dennis of
Baton Rouge, La.; Kimberly Johnson Woodfin and Mark of Marshall;
son, Roger Greg Johnson of Dallas; grandchildren, Dale Shaver,
Lindsay Shaver, Hilary Woodfin, Michael Woodfin, Will Woodfin,
Allen Johnson, and Ashley Johnson; sister and brother-in-law,
Marye Cox and Gill of Lufkin; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas
Hubbard and Mary Ann of Lufkin; and sister-in-law, Shirley Hubbard
of Lufkin.

Mildred J. Ashcraft
Graveside services for Mildred J. Ashcraft, 82, of Kilgore, will
be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2002, at Grace Hill Cemetery
with Rev. Ted White officiating. Burial will follow in Grace Hill
Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
Mrs. Ashcraft died Saturday evening in a Longview hospital.
She was born May 31, 1920 in Jayton to Joseph and Susan Whitworth,
who preceded her in death. She worked as a book binder for the
R.C. Wood Company and was a Baptist.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Martha and
Bobby Sawyer and Barbara and Al Loden, all of Kilgore; son and
daughter-in-law, William Charles and Sara Ashcraft of Florida;
nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and sister and
brother-in-law, Katherine and Herman Shirley of Rockwall.

Mollie Baggett McKittrick
Mollie Baggett McKittrick
Services for Mollie McKittrick, 94, of Longview will be held
at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at the Welch Funeral &
Memorial Center Chapel, 4619 Judson Road, with Dr. W.S. Couvillion
and Dr. Randy Fitzgerald officiating, followed by a Garden Court
committal service. Burial will be in Judson Cemetery. Mrs. McKittrick
died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at a local hospital.
Mrs. McKittrick was born December 7, 1907, to David Jesey Baggett
and Fannie Lucindy Petty in Limestone County. She was a graduate
of Texas Tech, a member of Gregg County Retired Teachers and formerly
a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She taught school in the Judson
and Longview Independent School Districts, was assistant postmaster
at Judson Post Office, and was a member of Summerfield United
Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius Michael McKittrick;
a grandson, Terry Michael Koonce; two brothers, Jess Baggett and
Joe Baggett; two step-brothers, Lynn Baggett and Lewis Baggett;
and two step-sisters, Beulah Wynn and Myrtle Merritt.
Mrs. McKittrick is survived by a daughter, Mary Koonce of Longview;
a son, Mike McKittrick of Uncertain; a granddaughter, Tiffany
Koonce of Tyler; a sister, Fannie Harris of Lubbock; numerous
nieces and nephews; and many friends. She will be dearly missed
by all.

Lola Belle Smelley
Services for Lola Belle Smelley, 92, of Longview will be held
at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, at Winterfield United Methodist
Church with the Rev. Walter Langham officiating. Burial will follow
in Winterfield Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home
of Longview. Mrs. Smelley died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002, in Longview.
She was born Dec. 16, 1909, in Longview and had lived here all
of her life. She was a homemaker, a member of the Forest Hills
Baptist Church and affiliated with the Winterfield United Methodist
Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.H. Smelley
Jr., and a daughter, Joann Smelley Todd.
She is survived by two sons, Billy T. Smelley and his wife, Betty,
of Hallsville and Mack D. Smelley and his wife, Bonnie, of Longview.
Survivors also include nine grandchildren, John William Smelley
and his wife, Jnell; Linda Harley and her husband, Randy; Mack
David Smelley and his wife, Teresa Renee; Mike Smelley and his
wife, Wendy; Mark Todd; Lee Ann Todd; Craig Todd; Jeffery Wayne
Todd; and Derrick Todd and his wife, Beth; two sisters, Gladys
Moore and Mamie Veteto, both of
Longview; two nieces, Claire Bates of Longview and Jetta Woodall
of Orlando, Fla.; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Gene Grammer, Randal Harley, Eddy Abbott,
A.J. Smelley Jr., David Smelley, Derwood Smelley, John Paul Smelley
and Jeremy Smith.

Robert Lee "Buddy" McFarland Jr.
Services for Robert Lee "Buddy" McFarland Jr., 84, of Hallsville
will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, 2002, in Rader Funeral
Home Chapel, 1617 Judson Road in Longview, with Robert Johnson
officiating. Interment will follow in Noonday Cemetery in Hallsville.
Mr. McFarland
died Friday morning, Nov. 15, 2002, in a local hospital. Robert
was born Aug. 28, 1918, in Gregg County to Robert and Norma McFarland.
He was a truck driver for Wickham & Swift Packing.
Mr. McFarland is survived by his wife, Wanda Croft McFarland
of Hallsville; his sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Lee McFarland
III and his wife, Sonja, of Longview, Ronald Wayne McFarland and
his wife, Alice, of Longview, Lonny Gene McFarland of Hallsville,
Thomas Edward
McFarland and his wife, Terri, of Hallsville, and Gerald McFarland
and his wife, Theresa, also of Hallsville; his daughters and sons-in-law,
Judy Carol Lamadu and her husband, Sam, of Avinger and Linda Kay

Mrs. A. L. Connor's
Services Saturday
Funeral services for Mrs. A. L. Connor, 1200 Turner Drive, a
resident of this city for the past 52 years, will be held at 10
a.m. Saturday at the Welch Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Derwood Blackwell
will conduct the rites and burial will be in Memory Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Connor came to Longview from Central Texas more than a half
a century ago. She was a past president of the Shakespeare and
Music Clubs. Her late husband, A. L. Connor, was the owner of
the Connor Dry Goods Company in early Longview.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. G. H. Mercer with whom she
was visiting at the time of her death: a sister, Mrs. F. H. Shaw
of Marlin; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Note: Her name was Carlie (Harlan) Connor, oldest daughter of
Zill Isaiah & Maude (Graves) Harlan of Marlin, Falls County,
Texas. Wife of Arthur Lee Connor, Sr. She was born on July 10,
1885 and passed away on Thursday, February 20, 1969. kc
