1890 GREGG COUNTY TAX LIST This book contains names of Gregg County citizens appearing in the 1890 tax roll of the county as well as the precincts in which they resided. If they were landowners, the acreage and headrights were also copied. Town lots are indicated by: Gw - Gladewater; Kil - Kilgore; Long - Longview; L.J. - Longview Junction; T.A. - Turner Addition. The names were copied in the order they appeared on the roll. They are approximately alphabetical, with the persons paying taxes on land and personal property being listed first under each letter of the alphabet. Then follows a list of those who paid only a poll tax under each letter of the alphabet. There were eight voting precincts in the county election held 6 November 1888, and these precincts are indicated by the tax roll. Precinctis and voting places were: 1.............Longview The voting places were the same in the election held 4 November 1890, except Easton was no longer a box. Since 20 years is spanned between the 1880 census and the 1900 census of Gregg County, the 1890 Tax Roll may provide some useful material for the local history or genealogical researcher. John W.
