1853 Alfred Perry Letter

Translation by Jeanna Perry Chowning, of a typed copy of a letter from 
Alfred Perry to his brother Solomon dated Jan. 10, 1853 (sons of Jeremiah 
"Ridge" Perry). Alfred was urging his brother to come out to Harrison Co., 
Texas. Solomon was living in Maury Co., TN. The Pleasant Grove P. O. was 
in Fountain Creek, near Culleoka in Maury Co. Alfred mentions that many 
of the Perry relatives and North Carolina people are there in Texas. My 
Great Uncle John Morgan Perry who was a great-grandson of Solomon's, 
typed copies of letters that he borrowed from a Tennessee cousin, Eugene 
Pinkelton (Pilkinton), and then returned the original letters to his cousin. 
Mag Wiliford is another cousin. My great uncle Morgan made a few mistakes 
in typing the names of the relatives. The "I. D." should be "J. D." for 
Josiah Dixon Perry. The "H. T." should be "H. P." for Harwood Pope Perry. 
"Levia" should be "Levin" for Levin King Perry. (Original letters returned

Solomon Perry Esq.

Dear Sir:
Your's of the 1^st day of December came safe to hand on yesterdays date. 
All is well and happy to hear the same of your family. I can only say to 
you this must be a better country for you than that so I would advise you 
to come and I will do all I can for you and go with you to look to your 
satisfaction. I have plenty of land or will go west with you. Everything 
is scarce and high but we can all get along and do as well as others. All 
the relation are well. I hope soon to hear from you and see you and family 
personally. Nothing more only I

post mark is stamped Port Caddo Texas and bears the date of Jan. 13.)
