Obituaries -- Placed 9-3-2004 Fred Cheney LaRue, Sr. There will be a memorial service for Fred Cheney LaRue Sr. at Athens Cemetery, LaRue Section, at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5, 2004. Mr. LaRue, 75, died Tuesday, July 27, 2004, in Biloxi, Miss. Mr. LaRue was a resident of Jackson, Miss., and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He was a native of Athens. He enjoyed a long career in the oil and gas business in Jackson, Miss. He was active in Republican Party politics on a national, state, and local level. Over the last 25 years he spent much of his time on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He was a lifelong hunting and fishing enthusiast and greatly enjoyed spending time with his friends and family. Mr. LaRue is survived by his wife, Joyce Burleson LaRue of Jackson, Miss.; three daughters, Grace Burleson Smith and husband, Roy, of Crystal Springs, Miss., Patricia LaRue of Arlington, and Leslie LaRue of New York City; three sons, Ike P. LaRue III and wife, Jayne Barksdale LaRue, of Jackson, Miss., Fred C. LaRue Jr. and wife, Cynthia, of Brandon, Miss., and Stephen Earle LaRue of Portland, Ore.; one sister, Ruthie LaRue Owen of Jackson, Miss.; one brother, Ike P. LaRue, Jr. of Jackson, Miss.; and nine grandchildren, Adrienne Lawyer of Albuquerque, N.M., Haden Lawyer of Memphis, Tenn., Cheney LaRue of Jackson, Miss., Leslie Smithson of Arlington, Luke Smithson of Arlington, Seth LaRue of Brandon, Miss., Sarah LaRue of Brandon, Miss., Grace Barksdale LaRue of Jackson, Miss., and Ike P. LaRue IV of Jackson, Miss. Services will be at St. James Episcopal Church in Jackson, Miss., on Friday, July 30, 2004, at 3 p.m. Friends may visit two hours prior to service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be sent to the Mississippi Methodist Rehabilitation Center, 1350 East Woodrow Wilson Dr., Jackson, MS 39216.
