Obituaries -- Placed 9-15-2003 Irvin E. Mills Services for the Rev. Irvin E. Mills, 87, of Athens were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Foster & Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Richard Fulton and Ronnie Yarbrough officiating. Burial followed at Athens Cemetery under the direction of Foster & Brown Funeral Home of Athens. The Rev. Mills died Sept. 12, 2003, in Athens. He was born March 24, 1916, in Henderson County to Irvin Edward Sr. and Annie Eliza Edwards Mills. He was a member of the Shady Oaks Fire Department, where he served as assistant chief from 1976 until 1993. He was a member of Willow Springs Baptist Church and was ordained as a Baptist minister at the church in 1952. He retired as transportation director at Henderson County Junior College in 1978. The Rev. Mills was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Boyd Mills, in 1990; parents; and brother, Brady Mills. Survivors include his daughter, Brenda Smith and Fred Summerall of Athens; sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Scherry Mills of Athens, David Mills of Athens and Eddie and Teresa Mills of Albany, Ken.; sister, Hazel Dalton of Sherman; brothers, Van Mills of San Angelo and Tommy Mills of Brownsboro; grandchildren, Eric and Amy Mills, Tina Bynum, Laura and Tony Wiggins, Rickey and Denese Smith, Marty Mills, Terry and Krissi Mills, Monika Mills and Jarod Mills; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Ernest Smith, Gene Bishop, Cory Thompson, Johnny Wilson, Doug Tucker, John McMakin and Jeff McManus.
