July 14, 2003 Joy Ann Lindley Free Funeral services for Joy Ann Lindley Free, 61, of Mabank and formerly of Athens were held at 1 p.m. Monday at Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lee Farmer officiating. Burial followed at Athens Cemetery in Athens under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home of Athens. Mrs. Free passed away Friday, July 11, 2003, at East Texas Medical Center Athens. Mrs. Free was born Oct. 21, 1941, in Houston to the late Jodus Thurman, who passed away in 1999, and Evelyn Lucille Richardson Lindley, who passed away in 2000. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Thurman Ray Lindley, in 1992. Mrs. Free was a resident of Mabank for the past three years and formerly of Athens for 30 years. She retired from Jordan Health Service in Mount Vernon. She was a member of First United Pentecostal Church in Athens. She was an avid knitter and loved all animals. She is survived by her husband, John Free of Mabank; daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Charles Fleming Sr. of Seven Points; grandchildren, Charles Fleming of Mabank and Andrew Fleming of Seven Points; sisters, Lana Smith of Athens and Barbara Potter of Sulphur Springs; and numerous nephews and nieces. Pallbearers were Carl Lewis Potter, Emitt Reynolds, Caddo Smith, Garvin Martin, Charles Fleming Jr. and Andrew Fleming. If desired, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O.
