John D. Padgett Jr. Services for John D. Padgett Jr., 81, of Fort Worth, relative of an Athens resident, are scheduled 2 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home in Fort Worth, with Dr. John D. Williams officiating. Burial will be 5 p.m. Wednesday at Athens Cemetery. Mr. Padgett died July 1, 2002, in Fort Worth. He was born May 24, 1921, in Fort Worth to John D. Padgett Sr. and Mildred Deltz Padgett. After graduating from Polytechnic High School, he attended Texas Wesleyan College. He served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. After the war, he continued his education and graduated from Georgia Tech. He was a retired electrical engineer with TXU for 33 years ending in retirement in 1980. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Fort Worth. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Bettye Hart Padgett; sister, Mary Belle Morris of Fort Worth; brother, Paul Padgett of Wills Point; sister-in-law, Bari Baker Hart of Athens; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Edwina Hart Rosson and Richard Rosson of Dallas; four nephews; and three nieces.
