Mrs. Lewis England Carroll Services for Mrs. Lewis England Carroll, 97, of Athens are scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Bill Watson officiating. Burial will be at the Athens City Cemetery under the direction of Foster and Brown Funeral Home. Mrs. Carroll died March 17, 1999, in Athens. She was born August 25, 1901, in Mabank to the late Mr. and Mrs. W.O. and Nell Bright England. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Carroll was vice president and cashier of First National Bank of Athens and had been named "Who's Who of American Women." She attended Athens Public Schools and married John W. Carroll on July 22, 1923. In 1919, she went to work as a file clerk in the bank. She made assistant cashier in 1937 and cashier in 1945 and became vice president and director in 1957. In 1942-44, Mrs. Carroll was active in the American Red Cross, a member of the National Association of Bank Women and was vice chairman of the East Texas group in 1965-66. She is a past president of B&PW and district director of B&PW and a past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star. Mrs. Carroll is survived by one niece, Mina Lehr of Athens and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Honorary pallbearers will include the officers and employees of the First National Bank of Athens. Memorials may be made to the Clint Murchison Memorial Library or the First Presbyterian Church.
