Leo Jones Memorial services for Leo Jones, 74, of Athens are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lynn Parker officiating. Private burial will be in Athens City Cemetery under the direction of Carroll-Lehr Funeral Home. Mr. Jones died March 17, 1999, in East Texas Medical Center in Athens. He was born July 5, 1924, in Chandler to the late Iza and Fannie Newsome Jones. A lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was co-founder and owner of Kidd-Jones Oil Company which was established in 1963. He served on the Board of Directors of First State Bank, formerly owned the Bank of Athens, and served on the Board of Directors at First National Bank, and had served as President of Athens Country Club. Mr. Jones was postmaster in Chandler during the 1960s. He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Jones was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Helen Jones. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Anita Jones of Athens; sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Mike and Candace Jones, George and Linda VanCleave and Joe VanCleave, all of Athens, Richard and B.J. VanCleave of Mobile, Ala.; brother, Jack Jones of Carrizo Springs; sister, Joy Clark of Chandler; grandchildren, Chanda Loftis, Lacey Loftis, Charles Leo Jones, Richard VanCleave III, Clifton VanCleave, Jeffery VanCleave, James VanCleave and numerous nephews and nieces. Honorary pallbearers include Jack Hardeo, Mack Adams, Herbert Gatlin, Lester Kinabrew, Jerry Kidd, Billy Bob Allen, Bill Key, Charles Elliott, Johnny Brown, Fred Asmussen, Greg Russell, Shorty Sholars, John Deibel, Dr. Harold Smitson, Carroll Dyson.
