Athens Weekly Review November 28, 1940 Funeral Rites Tuesday For Mrs. Matthews Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret Matthews, wife of J. J. Matthews Athens Druggist, were Tuesday morning at 10:30 o’clock from the family home on Tyler street. Rev. Roy Mac(unreadable) pastor of the First Presbyterian church conducted the service. Mrs. Matthews died at 10:10 o’clock Sunday night at the family residence following a long illness. she only recently had returned from a Dallas hospital where she had been under treatment for several weeks. The deceased was the former Margaret Fortson, member of a prominent Navarro county family. She was born in that county on August 2, 1874, but had been a resident of Athens for the past twenty-eight years. Besides her husband, she is survived by two brothers, J. B.. Fortson Corsicana, and J. T. Fortson, Texas, and by four sisters, T. D. Queen, Rice; Mrs. Ida Harper, Rice; Mrs. R. F. Bart(unreadable) Rice, and Mrs. W. S. Hollis(unreadable) Dallas. Interment was in the Athens cemetery. Pallbearers were: H. L. Par(unreadable) Jr., Harry Murchison, William Walker, Jr., Douglas Gauntt, (unreadable) Titsworth Jr., T. D. Evans.
