James Garland Services for James Garland, 65, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mankin Cemetery with Ned Mullins officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Tomlinson Funeral Home of Seven Points. Mr. Garland died Dec. 20, 2002, in Tool. He was born Jan. 30, 1937, in Fannin County. Mr. Garland worked for Texas Clay/ACME Brick as a kiln burner. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Emma Cuturell Cates; grandchild, Cheyenne Renee Cates; and numerous brothers and sisters. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Martha Ann Cates of Tool; children and their spouses, Kenneth and Marsha Cates of Tool, Garland and Monica Cates of Tool and Michael and Sherrie Cates of Dallas; brothers, Danny, Billy and Bobby Cates; sisters, Tommy Timer, Elizabeth Cates, Lilly Mae Hillburn and Dorothy Montgomery; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Pallbaerers were Kenneth Cates, Michael Cates, David Landers, marsha Cates, Garland Cates, Luke Cates, Roger Landers and Derrick Attaway.
