This is a copy of the value of the estate made in Henderson Co.
Texas, of my ggggrandmother Jannet/Jane (Shaw) McLeod. Born ca  1778 and
who died  July 1, 1862,  Aley, Henderson Co. TX. while living in the
home of her daughter and son-in-law. Arenna  (McLeod) Clark, &  William
Fain Clark. Both of whom also died in Aley. Jannet was the wife of
Alexander McLeod, d. Feb. 1840, Greenwood,  Caddo Parish, LA.

I claim NO Copyrights on anything I send to the list. It may be used by
anyone as they have the need. All I ask for is credit for the many years
(40) of research. Some information was provided to me by Cathi Smith
many years ago. She has also been a contributor to the Henderson Co.
history over the years.

Jane is listed in the 1840, 1850,  Census, of Caddo Parish but not in
the Census of 1860. She is also not in the 1860 Census of Henderson Co.
TX. even though she is there when she died in 1862.

Her given name is listed variously as Jannet and Jane.  See the attached
will of Alexander McLeod.

The State of Texas County of Henderson County Court Pertaining to
Estates of Decd. persons July Term A D 1862

To the Hon. D. A. Owen Chief Justice of Henderson County. The
undersigned respectfully represent that Mrs. Jane McLeod late of said
County died at the residence of the undersigned in said County about the
first day of July A D 1862 owning and possessing personal property of
the value of five hundred and seventeen dollars. Leaving the following
heirs lineal descendants of dec'd to wit, Catherine Johnson wife of
Charles Moore who resides in Panola County, Texas, J. B. Johnson who
resides in Caddo Parish Louisiana, Jane Gray [should read Garey] and
Charles Gray who resides in Caddo Parish Louisiana (sic), all of whom
are the children of Margaret McLeod a daughter of dec'd.  Mary Allen
wife of A. J. Allen who resides in Anderson County Texas, Arena Clark
wife of W. F. Clark who resides in Henderson County Texas, both
daughters of dec'd, John A. McLeod residence not known also a son of
dec'd. Premises considered Arena Clark joined by her husband asks that
letters of administration be issued to them upon Estate of dec'd upon
them giving the proper bond & d and that the clerk of your Hon. Court
give the legal notice of this application.

The State of Texas County of Henderson

County Court Pertaining to Estates of Dec'd person. September Term A D 1862

To the Hon D A Owen Chief Justice of Henderson County.
We the undersigned appointed appraisers of the Estate of Jane McLeod dec'd
appraise the following property pointed out to us by the admrs. of said
Estate as follows to wit.

One Negro woman named Fanny aged about forty-five or fifty years at the
sum of $300.00 Two beds and bedding $25.00 each  Amt. of appraisal.

The undersigned admrs. of the Estate of Jane McLeod dec'd make the following
return of an account of sale of property belonging to said Estate made
in obedience to an order of said court at the Feby Term thereof A D 1863
to wit one Negro woman named Fanny, aged about 50 years to HL Gilmore of
$500.00. one feather bed to H L Gilmore $17.00 Amt. of sale. $517.00 
They make this return under the oath of their attorney who was at said
sale. Said sale was made at the court house door in the town of Athens
on the 7th day first Tuesday in April 1867 [should read 1863] between
the hours of 10 o'clock A. M. and 4 o'clock P.M. on a credit of twelve
months to the highest & best bidder at public auction note with approved
security and a mortgage required said admrs. ask that said sale be
rec'd  confirmed and recorded and that they be ordered to make a
conveyance to the purchaser upon his complying with the Terms thereof
and they
as in duty bound will ever pray & c.

Will of the husband of Jannet/Jane McLeod

The Last Will and Testament of Alexander McLeod of the Parish of Caddo
and State of Louisiana.

I Alexander McLeod considering the uncertainty of this life and being of
sound mind and memory do make publish and declare this to be my last
Will and Testament in manner and form to wit.

1st I will order and appoint that all of my just debts be paid and the
residue or remainder of my estate of all and every kind whatsoever I
give and bequeath unto my wife Jannet McLeod to have and to hold during
her lifetime and at her death I will order and appoint that it be
equally divided among my four children Margaret Johnson, Mary Smith,
Arrena Clark and John A. McLeod and lastly I appoint Thomas D. Gary and
my son, John A. McLeod sole executors of this my last Will and Testament
revoking all former wills by me.  Made in Testimony whereof I herein to
set my hand and seal this 6th day of January AD 1840     Alexander

Succession of Alexander McLeod Appraisal 11 Feb. 1840.

Be it known that on this the eleventh day of February in the year of one
thousand eight hundred and Forty in pursuance of an order of the court
of Probate in and for the Parish of Caddo State of Louisana I,
Washington Jenkins Parish Judge and ex officio Notary Public in and for
the Parish and State aforesaid proceeded to take an inventory and
appraisement of the property belonging to the succession of Alexander
McLeod late of the said Parish deceased.  Misters David Hester and
Robert Smith were appointed and Duley sworn to appraise the said
property.  The said inventory was taken as follows to wit.  Property
Appraisement.

A certain tract of Parcel of lands in this Parish in Section Number
Nineteen (19) and twenty (20) in Township Seventeen (17) Range Fourteen
(14) west containing Five Hundred and Sixty Acres appraised to Five
Thousand and Six Hundred Dollars.
The one seventh interest of a tract of Land in this Parish situated on
Carp Lake containing One Hundred and Sixty Acres appraised to Two
Hundred Dollars.

   2 March 1842

Before me Robert Vantre Maryn Notary Public in and for the Parish of
Caddo and State of Louisiana duly commissioned and sworn, this day
personally appeared Jane McLeod, widow of Alexander McLeod, Mary Ann
McLeod, wife of Robert H. Smith, represented by her attorney Charles N.
Gary, Arrina McLeod wife of William F. Clark who is present and
assisting her and John Alexander McLeod.

Who declare that for and in consideration of Fifteen Hundred Dollars,
cash in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged.  They do
by these presents grant bargain transfer sell convey and deliver unto
Thomas Dendy Garey of this Parish who hereby acknowledges possession
thereof.  All their right title claims and interest, of whatsoever
nature, in and to a certain parcel or body of land situated in the
Parish of Caddo and known and designated as the North Half of Section
No. Nineteen of Range No. Fourteen, and Township Seventeen.  The said
property was acquired by succession having formed a part of the estate
of the late Alexander McLeod, and upon which the said vendors declare
there exists no mortgage or other encumbrance, with which declaration
the purchaser acknowledges himself satisfied, Both parties waiving a
formal mortgage certificate of the Parish Judge ex offico recorder of
mortgage and exonerating the said Notary from all responsibility and
liability in the promises for executing this act without the said document.

And I said Notary did carefully explain to Arrina McLeod, wife of said
Clark the several articles contained in the new civil code of this state
to wit.  The first and second numbers of articles 2355, 2364 and 2386 as
well as all others that may be in force in this state, and informed her
of the nature and extent of the advantages then secured to her by law
and of her rights and the contract she is now entering into stated that
by making her renunciation she would deprive herself of all reclamation
in the property sold as aforesaid and all this was done apart out of the
presence of her said husband upon which the said Wm. Clark declared that
she consented to said sale thereby abandoning all her rights of mortgage
or otherwise upon the property aforesaid and renouncing now and forever
her said rights too  have and to hold the aforesaid property unto the
said purchaser to his proper use and behoove forever.  And the said
vendors for themselves their heirs and assigns unto the said purchaser
his heirs and assigns the said described property against the legal
claim or claims of all and every person or persons whomsoever shall and
will forever defined by these presents, hereby subrogating and
transferring unto the said purchaser all their rights of warranty and
action with full power to exercise the same according to law.

Done and passed in the Parish of Caddo this second day of March, One
Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty Two in presence William L. Smith and
Robert Cooper both residents of this Parish who have here unto signed
their respective names with said parties and me said Notary.
