Former County Man Killed By Runaway Team

Hugh H. Scroggins, 48, a brother of George M. Scroggins of Athens
and a native citizen of Henderson County was killed early Thursday
morning at Seminole, Oklahoma, when run over by a runaway team,
according to a message received Thursday night by George Scroggins.
The team trampled the body underfoot and it was so badly mutilated
that it was necessary to hold the funeral services there at 10
o'clock Friday morning. Interment was in the Seminole cemetery.

The deceased was born on a farm East of Baxter in this county but
went to Oklahoma as a youth and had since lived there continuously.
For some years he had been engaged in the teaming contracting
business in teh MidContinent oil field, maintaining his headquarters
at Seminole.

His last visit to Athens was about four years ago.

He is survived by his wife and two childrena nd two brother, George
M. Scroggins of Athens, and James Scroggins of Holtville, California.

Because of the necessity of holding the funeral services this
morning, George Scroggins found it impossible to reach Seminole in
time for the services. The message telling of his brother's tragic
death was received here too late to enable him to be present.
