Death Claims Mrs. G. J. Eads, Lifetime Resident of County

Mrs. G. J. Eads, 81, widow of the late General Eads, for many
years a prominent farmer of Henderson county, died at her
home on the old Tyler highway, just out of the city, at 4:00 o’clock
Thursday morning. Mrs. Eads had been ill only for a few days
although she had been in feeble health for some time.
Funeral services were held from the home at 10:00 o’clock
Friday morning by Rev. T. H. Irwin, of Tyler, assisted by
Rev. M. L. Fuller. Burial will follow at the city cemetery.
Pallbearers were great grandsons of the deceased, who are:
Louis Perry, R. B. Perry, Jr., Willie Joe Perry, Aubrey Perry,
Perry Sanders, Miliford Thomas and Gilbert Perry.
Mrs. Eads was among the older residents of the county.
She was born in Henderson county January 2nd, 1856,
directly after her parents came here from Tennessee.
They settled north of Murchison. She was a member
of the Murchison Baptist Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. R. B. Perry, one sister,
Mrs. J. W. Splawn of Dallas; three grandchildren and
several great grandchildren. Mrs. Eads was a sister
of the late J. T. LaRue.
Living with Mrs. Eads were her granddaughter,
Mrs. Collie Perry and her husband.

Aged Resident of Baxter Dies Monday Morning

Mrs. Ophelia Frizzell, 78, who had been ill for several days,
died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. E. Knight, in the
Baxter community at 2:18 o’clock Monday morning.
Funeral services were held at 4:00 o’clock Monday afternoon
with burial following in the Davis graveyard in the Baxter
community. Rev. D. R. Cartlidge conducted the services.
Deceased had been a member of the Baptist Church the
greater part of her life.
She is survived by three sons, Hall Frizzell of Malakoff;
T. D. and C. D. Frizzell of Athens and one daughter,
Mrs. W. E. Knight of Baxter, with whom she made her home.
Nine grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive.
Mrs. Frizzell was a native of Henderson county, having
been born in the Baxter community. Her parents were
named Ware and came to this county from Kentucky,
being among the first settlers here. Her husband
preceded her in death some twenty-six years ago.

Truck-Train Crash Victim Buried at Cottonwood Cemetery

Funeral services for Lloyd Edward Crabtree, 28, who died
near Greggton Wednesday morning when his truck was
struck by a troop train, was held at four o’clock Thursday
afternoon at the Cottonwood cemetery wit the Reverand
McShann of the community in charge of the services.
The deceased who was reported to have been working
on a government power project at the time of his death,
is survived by his wife and mother, the latter, Mrs. J. E.
Crabtree, of Athens.
Also surviving are three brothers, Elmer of Corpus Christi;
Tony of Camp Roberts, California; and Bennie of Athens,
route 5; five sisters, Mrs. Millard Davis of Athens, route 5,
and Misses Lillian, Addie Lou, Jackie, Francis Jean, all of
the same address.
The Carroll-Lehr funeral car left Athens with he body at
3 o’clock. All arrangements were by Carroll and Lehr
Funeral Home of Athens.

Resident Eustace Forty Years Dies; Funeral Wednesday

Funeral services for Mrs. G. L. Griffith, 71, of Eustace,
who died Tuesday, March 16, at 3:30 a.m. at the home
of a daughter, Mrs. Roscoe Holcomb, in Kemp, were
held Wednesday morning at 10:30 o’clock at the Mabank
Methodist Church.
The services were conducted by the Rev. J. W. Williford
of Eustace and the Methodist pastors of Kemp and Mabank.
Mrs. Griffith had lived in and near Eustace for about forty
years, but had made her home in Kemp the past few months
because of failing health.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Roscoe Holcomb,
Mrs. Dave Drenman of Grand Prairie, Mrs. Bryan
Nicholson of Collin county, Mrs. Odis Clark of Fort Worth,
and Mrs. A. G. Scharbrough of Fort Worth; one son,
General Griffith of Trinidad; one sister, Mrs. J. M. Hastings
of Eustace, and one brother, Will Moore of Electra.

Sgt. McMullen Dies In Action In North Africa

Sgt. Eddie Lee McMullen, formerly of Athens, was killed
in action in the North African theatre of the war, according
to a message received Friday from the War Department by
his mother, Mrs. J. E. Reason, of Dallas.
The date of Sgt. McMullen’s death was not given, but he
was reported missing on March 25.
He enlisted in the Army in October, 1940, and had been
overseas since last August. He was stationed in England
and Scotland before going to North Africa.
Sgt. McMullen is a nephew of Mrs. Walter Yarbrough, of
Athens, and attended school in Athens.
