The Cawthon Barber Shop building was burned and
a vacant building belonging to Taylor and McGregor was damaged.
The Greenville Fire Department responded to the call
and helped to check the spread of flames.
Fire was discovered in the second story of the hotel
during the breakfast hour and spread rapidly to adjoining buildings.
The loss on the hotel building was estimated at
$8,000.00 and equipment $4,000.00.
Most of the furniture in the barber shop was carried
to safety, but the building burned, loss of about $1,000.00 reported.
The vacant building was damaged; it was estimated
at $1,000.00.
The Henslee Lumber Company was seriously threatened
by the flames, but was not damaged.
Some damage to telephone and electric wires was
noted.
Chief Rowsey directed the Greenville firemen who
rendered capable assistance in checking the spread of flames.
Celeste is planning for a water system and it is
possible that an up-to-date water plant will be installed to serve that
