Hogeye (Hog Eye) is on Farm Road 1566 ten miles north of Greenville in north central Hunt County. It was probably established before 1858, when a Masonic lodge was constructed there. The community is named for the symbolic eye of the Masonic order, which looked "to some of the unlettered natives" like a hog's eye. The first floor of the lodge functioned as a community school until the lodge was moved to Kingston and then to Celeste in 1886. Hogeye declined as nearby Celeste grew with the arrival of the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway in 1886. The 1984 county highway map showed a community hall at Hogeye.
