White Rock Baptist Church Calls Pastor
At a church conference recently, member s of the
Baptist Church at White Rock made a unanimous call to Rev. Aly, student
of Burleson College, to become pastor for the ensuing year. The church
further organized for an active campaign for church and community service.
The following officers of the church were elected:
Mrs. Emma Billington, church clerk; E. J. Titus, secretary and treasurer;
A. J. Stone, janitor; Mrs. Bruce Becknell, pianist; W. C. Nall, choirister.
Officers for the Sunday School were elected as follows:
Superintendent, Ernest Wooten; Adult teacher, Mr. Billington; Senior teacher,
Mrs. G. W. Martin; Boys intermediate teacher, Jack Puckett; Girls intermediate
teacher, Ida Mae Jordan; Boys junior teacher, Lorene Green; Primary, Mrs.
Eula Eldridge; Beginners and Cradle roll: Mrs. Mary Cody and A. J.
Stone, secretary of the Sunday School.
The following delegates were elected to the association
at Josephine: E. J. Titus, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Becknell, Ernest Wooten,

The Prairies of Hunt County
The prairies of Hunt County were once dotted with
buffalo heads, the animals having years previous been slain for the meat
and hides, principally, the latter. (October 10, 1929, The Greenville

Kingston Home Demonstration Club
The Kingston Demonstration Club met Thursday, October
18, 1929, with Mrs. J. B. Porter as hostess. The meeting opened with
the club song. Nine members answered roll call. The club then
entered into a business session at which time it was moved and seconded
that we not disband as a club, but put new life in to our work and make
our club the best ever. The motion carried unanimously.
We then went into the election of officers for 1930.
The following officers were elected: President, Mrs. G. A. McGee;
V-P, Mrs. Irma Busby; Secretary-Treasurer and Reporter, Mrs. C. O. Kirkpatrick;
Librarian, Mrs. J. H. Read; Historian, Mrs. C. G. Gregory; Song leader,
Mrs. J. B. Porter.
After the election of officers, we went into discussion
of ways and means of obtaining new members of the club. Plans were
also made of the Halloween social which will be in the way of a Hobo Stew.
Kingston club members and families are expected to be present and we especially
invite those who might be contemplating membership in our club.
We would be pleased also to have Miss Roberson present
at this time.
The club adjourned for a social hour, during which
the hostess assisted by Mrs. C. G. Gregory serviced delicious jello salad
with wafers. We were very pleased to have as visitors at this meeting,
Mesdames Bolton, Pauline Busby, Clydie Merl Greer, Billie McGee, Dorothy
Sumrow, and Ned Norris.
The club will meet on November 7th for our Meat

Hickory Creek Home Demonstration Club
Our Home Demonstration Club had their regular meeting
Thursday, October 17th, with Mrs. J. R. Felty as hostess.
Miss Roberson being present gave a lecture on Yard
Beautification and outlined plans by which every interested club lady can
add beauty to her yard.
Mrs. J. R. Felty entered as a contestant from this
club. Following this program, we had election of officers as follows:
President and Reporter, Mrs. Charles Felty; V-P, Mrs. O. S. Nelson; Secretary,
Mrs. J. R. Felty; Treasurer, Mrs. W. M. Gilmer; Song leader, Mrs. W. V.
Moore.
All business attended the club adjourned to meet
with Mrs. O. S. Nelson, November 7th. Visitors invited.

The Colored Institute Held
With this year's session having been declared as
the most successful in its history, the Hunt County Negro Teachers Institute,
which began Thursday, October 31, 1929, came to a close at 2:40 here Friday,
November 1, 1929. The meetings were conducted at the Wesley CME Church
on Johnson Street.
A. M. Luper was the conductor of the institute with
G. S. Meadows in charge of the advanced department, Mrs. L. V. Gatlin,
intermediate department, and Mrs. E. M. Taylor, primary.
Thursday's program was very interesting with several
speakers on the program. Miss Mamie Patillo, Hunt County Superintendent,
gave an interesting and educational address to the institute Thursday,
the subject of her address being, "The Year's Program." Heart to
heart talks by teachers were a feature of the morning session, led by L.
V. Gatlin. In the program in addition to the one by Miss Patillo,
those who spoke were W. J. Taylor, G. S. Meadows, C. U. Franklin, Mesdames
Luper, Gatlin, Houston, Taylor, and Madry.
Friday the program consisted of talks by P. A. Houston,
Mesdames Bingham, Harris, and Misses Fite and Young. Physical education
was a subject discussed by Mesdames Byrd and Colbert, while school athletics
and discipline were subjects discussed. The afternoon Friday was
devoted to unfinished business, reports of committees and chairmen, Interscholastic
