The entire community was shocked on Friday morning, March 22, when it was learned that Leslie M. Swindle was instantly killed and Harold Marshall was painfully injured at 5:15 o'clock when the coupe on which they were riding collided head-on with a lumber truck about five miles southwest of Greenville on the Greenville Dallas highway. The car was owned by Marshall and was driven by Swindle. It is understood that the driver of the truck was only slightly injured. Swindle's body was brought to Greenville and was removed to Wolfe City in the R. W. Owens and Company ambulance.

The accident occurred as Swindle and Marshall were driving toward Greenville from Dallas. The car was demolished and ... understood that considerable damage was done to the truck.

Funeral services for Mr. Swindle were held at the Mount Carmel Chapel on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, with R. W. Owens and Company in charge of the arrangements. The Rev. Roy M. Lee, pastor of the First Baptist Church, was in the charge of the services, assisted by Otis Proffitt, pastor of the Church of Christ. Interment was in the Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Houston Wooley, L... Woods, W. A. Mullins, R. W. Williams, Louis Bill George, and Chilton Medlin.

Leslie Morris Swindle was born near Wolfe City on April 18, 1900, and spent practically all of his life in and around Wolfe City. At the time of his demise, he was employed by the Provine Petroleum Company. He was an excellent mechanic and had been employed in this capacity by the local firm and had also owned and operated his own shop.

Mr. Swindle was married to Miss Annie Lee Walters on October 14, 1924, and to this union were born two children, who survive him. He was widely known in this section and his likeable, agreeable personality made him popular with his associates.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Annie Lee Swindle; a son, Leslie Swindle, Jr.; a daughter, Miss Annie Laurah Swindle of Wolfe City; four brothers, William Swindle of Celeste, Hershel Swindle of Greenville, Arch Swindle of Wolfe City, and Irvin Swindle of Texarkana; and a sister, Mrs. Ruff Owens of Savage. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
