Bank Hit For $2,500

Celeste, Texas (AP)--Albert Granberry, President of the First National Bank here, said about $2,500 in coins was taken when the bank was burglarized over the Thanksgiving holidays.

Granberry said he discovered burglars had entered the building through an unbarred window in a restroom near the back of the building. He made the discovery on Sunday.

Granberry said about a fourth of the banks' safe deposit boxes were forced open, in addition to the vault from which the coins were taken. The burglars' tools were found in the storeroom in the rear of the bank.

Investigators said the bank was not equipped with a burglar alarm. An unsuccessful attempt at bank burglary occurred in 1951, the bank president said. Federal officials have joined the investigation.
