Celeste Girls Belt Royse City, 37 - 22

For District Crown

Caddo Mills--The Celeste girls earned the right to wear the crown of the District 33 - B champions as they romped over Royse City 37 - 22, in the finals of the district single elimination tourney here Friday night.

It was a double victory for the Celeste school as the boys' team shocked pre-tourney favorite Bland, 47 - 46, to win the tourney championship and the right to meet Bland for the undisputed district crown. Celeste will tangle with Bland in a best two of three game series with the first game tomorrow night in Bland at 8:00 PM.

In order to claim the district crown outright, Bland would have had to capture the tourney crown since they won the district in regular play. The tourney is set up so that if a team other than the district winner finishes first, a three - game play - off is played to determine the loop champion.

In regular season district play, the Celeste girls' team won the title; so, they were declared district champions after winning the tournament trophy.

Linda Weatherley poured in thirteen points; Martha Sumrow, twelve. Birdie Young grabbed high point honors for Royse City with seventeen points.

In the boys' contest, Celeste rode the hot-shooting of Bob Barnard, bucketed eighteen points, to their narrow win. Kenneth Sumrow chipped in thirteen markers for the winning cause.

High point men for Bland were Larry Skidmore with nineteen and Roy Sumrow with seventeen.
