Celeste, Saltillo to Play Monday

Celeste--"The Celeste Blue Devilette girls' basketball team will play its bi-district basketball game at 7:45 PM on Monday against Saltillo in the Sulphur Springs High School Gymnasium," Coach G. W. Tillerson announced on Wednesday.

Saltillo is the winner of District 34 - B while Celeste emerged as champs of District 33 - B.

At stake in the bi-district tilt will be a trip to Austin College in Sherman the following Friday and Saturday for the regional playoffs. The winner of this tournament will advance to the state finals tournament at the University of Texas' Gregory Gymnasium in Austin.

Celeste played a pair of practice games with Class AA Rivercrest on Tuesday night and came out on the losing end of both, the Celeste A squad dropping the tilt, 56 - 50, and the B- Team losing 37 - 31.

Rivercrest grabbed a big 17 - 6 first-quarter lead in the A game and increased its advantage to 37 - 23 at halftime. The Rebels had Celeste down by sixteen points, 49 - 33, at the end of the third quarter before the Devilettes outscored their opponents 17 - 7 in the final stanza. The rally was too late, however, to make up for the lost ground.

Rivercrest's Glena Grayson led all scorers with twenty-three points, but Celeste had a pair of nineteen-pointers in Martha Sumrow and Linda Weatherley. Alice Roach had twelve for Celeste. Lana Sloan contributed fourteen to the Rivercrest cause.

Judy Justus had fifteen and Diane Lamm twelve for Celeste in the B-game. Kate Christopher netted twenty for the winning Rebels.
