Football - Pep Squad Banquet

On Saturday night, December 13, 1952, parents and friends sponsored a banquet for the successful Blue Devil team and the Dashing Devilettes.

The room was beautifully decorated in a football motif. Goal posts were wrapped in the school colors--blue and white. Balloons with football makings on them and a football player's name on each were hung in a cluster in the middle of the room. Pennants in the opponents' school colors were hung up for each team the Blue Devil played in the 1952 season and in the center of these in back of the main table was "District Champs." The place cards and programs were in a football motif, also.

The Rev. Dick Lear gave the invocation.

After a delicious meal, the sextet of Ann Clark, Shirley Thornton, Patsy Lewis, Nancy Slayden, Kathleen Quattlebaum, and Betty Perkins sang "Mr. Touchdown USA," and "You've Got To Be a Football Hero" after which Miss Vi Avia Roach gave a toast to the seniors and Johnny Myers gave the response. Mr. Press presented the lettermen of this football season. Mr. Clyde Heflin, our superintendent and Chairman of District 20B, took great pleasure in presenting his own team, with the beautiful trophy. Dicky Saye made a very heart-warming speech on behalf of the football team and the Pep Squad girls, also, presented Mrs. Lois Lewis, sponsor of the Devilettes, with a lovely carnation corsage and to Mr. Lloyd Press, coach of the team, he presented a Ronson cigarette lighter. After "thank you's from these two, Mr. Heflin introduced our guests and the speaker for the evening, Mr. Lee Brigham and Mrs. Brigham. After an intellectual and interesting talk, Mr. Brigham presented his guest, Mr. Don Watson, a sophomore student at Austin College. Mr. Watson showed a film on the Tulane - LSU football game played in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1950. With this film, our night of entertainment and our football activities for the 1952 football year were ended. Basketball!

The Celeste teams were hosts to the Caddo Mills Foxes on Friday night, December 12, 1952. The Caddo Mills girls team beat the locals by a score of 29 - 19. The Celeste boys won over the Caddo Mills boys by a score of 33 - 22.

Tuesday night, December 16, 1952, the Celeste teams will meet the Lone Oak Buffaloes on the Lone Oak court. On Friday night, December 19, the Celeste teams will play the Bland teams on the home court. Campus Interview!

Senior interviewer this week is Dorothy Harrell. She interviewed Peggy Cardwell, head drummer in the Dashing Devilettes and Jerry Sumrow, a lineman on the Blue Devil team. These are popular members of the junior class. (Interviews not printed). Christmas Holidays!

School will be turned out on December 19, 1952, for the Christmas holidays. We want to wish each and everyone of you, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. FHA News!

The FHA Chapter met on December 10, 1952, in the junior room for one of the scheduled meetings. The club had a very interesting and informative program. Mrs. Billy Joe Barnard spoke on what she expected of a babysitter.

The chapter also planned their Christmas party. The party will be December 17th. The members decided to draw names and exchange gifts. At the party, the junior girls will give a short Christmas skit called, "There is a Santa."

The club invites each FHA mother to be present. Refreshments will be served to the mothers and the club by the senior chapter members.

Refreshments of punch and cookies were served to the members and sponsor, Mrs. Breedlove, last Wednesday by hostesses Dot Harrell, Betty Lamm, Kay Armstrong, Allen Biggs, and Elnita Long.
