PFC John F. George, one of the small group of Marines, who fought so gallantly in the defense of Wake Island in the early days of the war, and the first Hunt County boy to fall into the hands of the Japanese, has been liberated, according to a message received here late Thursday by relatives.

The former Hunt County farm boy, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank George, spent more than forty-five months in Japanese prison camps, and had only been able to get a few cards through to relatives. The message Thursday night gave no details as to his physical condition, but stated that more information would follow.

PFC George attended Kingston and Celeste schools, and entered the Marines in March of 1941.

He is a brother to Mrs. George McGee, Celeste; Mrs. Lessie Addington, and Mrs. Troy Brooks, RR 2, Greenville; H. M. George, Haslet, Texas; and Mrs. Edith Morton, Dallas.
