Carrollton, Texas, April 13, 1943--M. S. Roach, who has been head coach of Carrollton High School for the last four years, has assumed the duties of superintendent, succeeding C. C. Carver, who resigned to take a position with the Public Welfare Department.

Roach came to Carrollton from Lone Oak High School, where he was high school principal and coach for four years. Prior to his services there, he was coach and principal at Emory High School for seven years and two years at Blossom High School in Lamar County.

He is President of the Lions Club and is active in the community and church affairs. He was chairman of the Scrap Iron Drive and assisted in the Red Cross and Community Chest campaigns. He is a worked with the Boy Scouts.

I am curious if this is the Roach from Lone Oak that Aunt Grace Roach brought home with her during their Commerce college days--PaPa Roach and the Roach classmate found a common thread...so the story goes.

I am curious if this is the tall Roach coach who sat in the stands and helped the Emory coach beat Celeste. I may not have the "right opponent," but Theda Compton Lacy has a memory about one of those close games. She also said that Coach Roach sat in the stands beside her one time. (SSS)
