These people are Oral Smith's brothers, sisters, and parents. From, left to right, back row: Oral Smith, Tom Smith, Curtis L. "That picture is at least forty-nine years old," Oral Smith said. "We were tenant farmers. We were very poor people, but we had a lot of pride like a lot of people did back then and we wanted a family picture. But we didn't have the money." So, the Smith family baled four tons of hay for the photographer at $3.00 a ton to get twelve pictures, according to Oral.
The picture was made during a light rain at Stanford Studio in Farmersville.
