Celeste--Servicemen many visiting their families in the Celeste and Kingston home for brief holiday furlough and returning to their bases or newly assigned posts are:

Pvt. Tommy Lamm, gong to Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio for medical corps training following basic at Fort Polk, Louisiana.

Lance Corpl Joe Lamm returning to Marine Camp Lajuine, North Carolina, where he is battalion legal clerk.

Gerald Hunter, in the Army Reserve, will complete training in the medical corps in Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, soon.

Jerry Weatherley, the third son now in service of Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Weatherley, returns to Fort Polk for continued infantry training.

Jimmy Hackney, also, back to Fort Polk for continued infantry training.

Howard (Bud) Roach who received basic at Fort Polk since October 11th induction, transfers to Fort Sam Houston where he trains for medical corpsman.

Teddy Hunter from Fort Polk to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, for artillery and missile school.

Sp4 Alvin M. Hunter, Fort Sam Houston, training at Fort Polk and Fort Bliss is with the 4th MP Sp (C - 1), Fort Sam Houston.

Jimmy Sumrow finishing basic at Fort Polk, Louisiana. Pvt. Jimmy L. Sumrow, having completed basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana, is now stationed at Fort Lee, Virginia, where he will undergo training in supplies and small arms. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Sumrow of Celeste. His wife, Pamela, who now resides with the Sumrows is joining her husband at Fort Lee, today. Jerry Taylor, home for the holiday, returns to Fort Polk, for completed basic training.

Douglas Milton and Gary Gibson are in training with the 12th Calvary at Fort Carson, Colorado.

Jimmy Creed completed basic training at Fort Polk, is sent to Fort Hood, Killeen, for medical corps training.

Larry Martin is in basic training at Fort Polk. W. S. Giles leaves on January 10th for Fort Polk. Kenneth Seigler (?) is training at Fort Eustace, Virginia and Ronnie Wright finished Air Force training at a North Carolina base.

Also Richard Rust is in the Air Force training in California.

Ronnie Childress is slated for a pre-induction physical soon as is Billy Raper.

Monty Blakemore completed Air Force Reservist Training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, and is stationed now at Carswell Air Force Base, Fort Worth.

Ray Love is in basic training at Fort Polk. Mike Weatherley is in Germany with postal clerical work. Randy Weatherley is at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, as an engineering instructor.

Jimmy Patterson is a four-year Navy enlistee as is Oliver Craver. Bobby Cawthon is stationed in Germany.

David Sampson and Dean Sampson receiving basic training at Fort Polk are together at a Seattle Army base. David is due for an overseas assignment and Dean take special courses at the Seattle base.

Three Griffis men from one family are stationed at Fort Hood, Killeen. They are M-Sgt Kenneth Griffis, a career man with several overseas assignments completed, and brothers, Bobby Griffis and Sammy Griffis. An uncle, 1st Sgt Kenneth R. Griffis, is presently with the 2nd Btl, 39th Inf, HHC. He is a fifteen - year career man. Other career servicemen include Charles Lewis, with thirteen years in the Air Force whose recent work was in 12th Headquarters Supply Command in downtown Waco, is now in Vietnam. Lt. Col Andy Joe Byers is on Army assignment at the University of Pennsylvania. During his sixteen years since West Point graduation, he has done overseas duty in the Korean War and later in Germany.

Lt. Col Rex Denny is a Marine Corps man with his family is stationed in Hawaii. Denny recently completed a tour of duty in Vietnam.

The above men and there may have been some inadvertently overlooked are all from the Celeste School, excepting Love, who is from Greenville, but has business with the family firm in Celeste.

More Celeste Area Military Listed

Celeste--The following list of seven servicemen added to a previously published Celeste and Kingston men in military service brings the total of career and recent inductees to.... Of this number, fourteen are career servicemen. Excepting two of the total named, all were Celeste School students:

They are:

First Sergeant Vincent (Tomo) Remediz, an infantryman with eighteen years service. Remediz, recently at Fort Bliss in El Paso, is now in Vietnam.

Captain Bobby L. Craigo, with the Air Force for eleven years and stationed at Bergstrom AFB in Austin for the past five years, now is serving at a Riverside, California Base. His family (wife and four children) reside at Colton, California.

Petty Officer First Class Thomas Giles, at Lakehurst, New Jersey, is a Navy man with fifteen years service. He is scheduled for Mediterranean sea duty in the capacity of helicopter mechanic.

Technical Sergeant Jimmy Don Mulkey, with the Air Force for fifteen and one-half years is presently in transfer from Kelly AFB, San Antonio, to duty at Tachikawa, AFB, Tokyo, Japan.

Major Harry Wilkerson with the Air Force missile training is at Whiteman AFB, Warrensburg, Missouri. Wilkerson has been in the service since 1952.

Airman First Class Kenneth Clinton of England Air Force Base, Alexandria, Louisiana, is serving his fifteenth year. A recent overseas assignment was on Okinawa.

A native of Celeste, Marine Corporal Frank (Francis) Walker is on Marine recruiting duty in Dallas. He leaves for Vietnam in May.
