QUINLAN — Arlee Butler, 91, resident of Quinlan, died Jan. 31, 2007, at Windsor Care Nursing Center in Terrell. His funeral service is at 2 p.m. today at the Quinlan United Methodist Church with Brother David Hammond and Pastor Wally Williams officiating. His burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Quinlan. Quinlan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Arlee was born Aug. 16, 1915, in Quinlan, the son of Thomas Jasper and Lou Bradley Butler.
Mr. Butler was very community minded and served the Quinlan area for many years. His accomplishments included serving on the Quinlan School Board for more than 30 years, serving on the board of Quinlan State Bank as a charter member and president of the bank, in the banking profession for more than 30 years, and an active member of the Quinlan Lions Club.
During the 1930s and 1940s, A.E. Butler Intermediate School in Quinlan was named in his honor. Arlee worked on the Oakland Bay Bridge and on building Liberty Ships during World War II. Mr. Butler was a lifelong rancher in Quinlan. He was of the Methodist faith.
Mr. Butler is survived by his daughter, Nancy Arleen Young of Quinlan; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Jo Butler of Quinlan; five grandchildren, Phil Young of Greenville and Tami Crawford, Kathy Brown, A. E. Butler and Wendell Butler, all of Quinlan; one sister, Nellie Ruth Deweese of Clearlake, Calif.; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; a son, Wendell Ralph Butler three brothers and two sisters.
His pallbearers are Michael Crawford Sr., Michael Crawford Jr., James Siebenhausen, Drew Patterson, Bryan Butler, and Monte Weaver. Honorary pallbearers are E. Gauntt, Penny Young, Doyle Crawford, Glenn Little, Tarrence Lewis, and Arney Allen.
