Athleen LaVelle Terry, 86, a lifelong resident of the Wieland Community passed away on Nov. 5, 2006, at her residence. She was born in Wieland Community on Sept. 23, 1920 to A. Lee and Maggie Nix Hill. Mrs. Terry attended Lone Oak Schools, Wesley College and East Texas Teacher’s College. She was the last teacher to have taught in the Wieland School before it consolidated with Lone Oak Independent School District.
Most of her teaching years were spent at Travis Elementary School in Greenville where she retired in 1980. LaVelle also taught Sunday School classes at Wieland Church of Christ where she was a lifelong, faithful, and devoted member.
On Jan. 10, 1947, LaVelle married Clyde Terry, Jr. in Garland. She is survived by her husband, a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Dianne of Wieland and a granddaughter Jennifer Terry of Lubbock. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Leona Hill, formerly of Wieland and a number of nieces and nephew, her loving church family and a very special friend, Mrs. Linda Smithey. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Garnet and Flavil Hill, a sister, Othelle Morrow, two nephews, Jerry Morrow and Richard Hill.
Services for Mrs. Terry will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2006 at 10 a.m. at Wieland Church of Christ with Ronald Coleman officiating. Burial will follow at the Wieland Cemetery with Coker-Mathews Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers are Gene Terry, Mike Terry, Terry Morrow, Billy Hooten, Grady Shepherd and T.P. Morrow. Honorary pallbearers are the men of the Wieland Congregation.
Visitation is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
