Dalton Norris Attaway
Dalton Norris Attaway, 41, of Peniel, died in a Bonham hospital on Wednesday afternoon, May 19, 1954, of injuries sustained Monday, May 17, 1954, when the car he was driving overturned on State Highway 78 six miles south of Bonham.
Attaway suffered serious head and neck injured in the accident and never fully regained consciousness.
Neal Thurman of Hickory Creek and Billy Jack Reeves of Celeste who were riding in the car with Attaway suffered only slight injuries.
Attaway's death was the seventh traffic fatality in the county thus far this year, more than were killed during the entire year of 1953.
Funeral services for Attaway, a former Celeste resident, were scheduled to be held at Peniel with James-Coker-Peters Funeral Home of Greenville in charge.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Dalton Howard Attaway, James Larry Attaway, and Mark Attaway of Orange; a daughter, Mrs. Thelma Jean Bean, Beaumont; and a number of brothers and sisters.
