Olan A. Bates
Olan A. Bates, 74, of Dallas, died in Baylor Hospital after a long illness.
Funeral services were held in Keever Chapel with the Rev. W. C. Taylor officiating. Interment was in the Rice Cemetery.
Mr. Bates was born on November 22, 1902, in Sulphur Springs, the son of Joseph L. Bates and Beulah Goad Bates. He was graduated from Leonard High School and attended Austin College at Sherman. In 1951, he moved to Ennis where he owned and operated the Rose Motel, retiring in 1973. On June 6, 1964, he was married to Myrtle Cummins of Ennis. He was a member oft he First United Methodist Church, the American Association of Retired People, the Hull Masonic Lodge # 1193, and the Winnie Chapter of the Eastern Star # 160.
Survivors are his wife; a brother, Joe E. Bates of Dallas; a sister, Mrs. H. S. Byers of Celeste; a nephew, Andy Joe Byers of Basking Ridge, New Jersey; and an aunt, Mrs. Jennie Mayhall of Greenville.
