Frances Moores Berry
TRENTON — Frances Moores Berry of Trenton, 88-year-old retired school teacher, died Tuesday February 26, 2008 at Texoma Medical Center in Denison.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, February 29, 2008, at the First United Methodist Church in Leonard. Officiating will be the Rev. David Sharp and the Rev. Scott Leslie.
Burial will follow at Pike Cemetery near Leonard.
Mrs. Berry was born on February 21, 1920 in Texarkana, Texas, daughter of Thomas H. Moores and Zula Shaw Moores. On April 8, 1945 she was married to Earnest E. Berry in Texarkana, Texas. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 8, 1995 at the First Methodist Church in Leonard. They met on a blind date at the Blue Moon Cafe in Leonard while Earnest was on leave from WW II. They made their home in the Lane community, Hunt County, Texas. Mr. Berry preceded her in death.
She had a master’s degree and taught school for thirty-six years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Leonard and Cross Roads Presbyterian Church in Desert, Texas. She was also a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Keith Kirkland and Sherry Kirkland of Trenton; brother, Richard Moores of Amarillo; grandsons, Craig Donihoo and Kody Kirkland of Trenton; cousins, Margaret Stewart and Gloria Moores of Texarkana, Texas, Delores Mitchell of Walterboro, South Carolina, Grace Ann Brown and husband Carl Brown of Walterboro, South Carolina and children, Jim, Mary Hunter and West; niece, Heather Bennett and husband, Ret-Col. Drew Bennett of Springfield, Missouri.; nephew, Loy Kirkland and wife, Jan Kirkland of Frisco, Texas; great-nieces, Alexandria Bennett of Springfield, Missouri. and Stacey and husband, Randy Lucas and children, Molly and Matthew of Tomball; great-nephew, Kyle Kirkland of Austin; and sister-in-law, Lola Childress of Celeste, Texas and children, Robert Childress and Donna Haynes.
Mrs. Berry's family would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, and staff at Wilson N. Jones and Texoma Medical Center for all of the care and love they gave her.
The family will be at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Leonard from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Thursday, February 28, 2008.
