Funeral services for Birchie Lee “Bill” Currin, 91, of Greenville are at 10 a.m. Friday at Ridgecrest Baptit Church, with Pastor Kevin Herbert officiating. Burial will follow at Memoryland Memorial Park. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.
Mr. Currin passed away on Dec. 10 in Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville.
He was born Oct. 5, 1915, in Hopkins County to William Walter and Maggie Adair Currin. He married Ruth Wooten on Sept. 19, 1943, in Greenville.
Bill was retired from the Greenville Fire Department with 30 years of service. He was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church and on the Advisory Board of Caprock Electric. He served in the 8th Cavalry and U.S. Air Force during World War II.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Wooten Currin; son, Mike and wife Linda of Alto, N.M.; grandchildren Deanna and Larry Johnson of Deer Park, Texas, Anne and Eric Drager of Minnesota and Steven Currin of Tucson, Ariz.; two great-grandchildren, Gary and Mitchell Davidson of Deer Park; a sister, Mildred Luttrell of Greenville, S.C.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Earl Currin.
Pallbearers are Joe Little, Ronnie Lyons, Jerry Swindell, Bobby Pickle, Bart Sherer and Joe Horton.
