Mrs. E. H. Blankenship

Mrs. E. H. Blankenship, 70, a resident of Celeste for the past forty-three years passed away at 7:45 AM, Tuesday, October 27, 1953, at her home here. She had been in ill health for several months and critically ill for the past few weeks.

Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church of Celeste at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, October 28, 1953, with the pastor, the Rev. Earl Allen, officiating. Burial was made in the Mount Carmel Cemetery east of Celeste.

Pallbearers were J. W. Hazal, C. E. Brewer, Byird Glasscoe, and Jacque Bickham of Celeste, Roscoe Connatser of Dallas, and William Berry of Greenville.

A native of Tennessee, Mrs. Blankenship was born on January 30, 1883, and was the daughter of J. W. Johnson and Clemmie Cox Johnson. She was married to E. H. Blankenship on January 8, 1902, and they came to Texas two years later.

Mrs. Blankenship, because of her many years of interest and devotion to church and civic activities of the community, was one of the best known citizens of Celeste and was held in high esteem by a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. She was a member of the Baptist Church and the Woodman Circle.

Surviving are her husband, E. H. Blankenship; one daughter, Mrs. Lem (Ruby) Warren of Celeste; four grandchildren, Jerry Warren, Joe Warren, Jack Warren, and Sarah Catherine Warren, all of Celeste; two sisters, Mrs. Lena Williams and Mrs. Lucy Gay, both of Lebanon, Tennessee; and three brothers, Benton Johnson, Charley Johnson, and Gregg Johnson.
