Agnes Joan Churchwell Breedlove
Agnes Joan Churchwell Breedlove, 84, died Thursday, December 28, 2006, in Paris, Texas. Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home will hold visitation at 7:00 PM on Friday, December 29, 2006. Funeral services will be held at Oak Ridge Church of Christ on FM 1550, south of Honey Grove at 10:30 AM on Saturday, December 30, 2006, with David Ballard and Charles Degnan, sons-in-law officiating.
She was born in Ladonia, Texas, on October 14, 1922, to O. V. Churchwell and Audrey Churchwell. She was married to Henry Johnson (Johnny) Breedlove on August 16, 1945, and had two daughters, Virginia Breedlove and Nancy Breedlove.
She was graduated from East Texas State University in 1944. She taught homemaking at Cunningham, Celeste (1949 - 1953), and Bland. In 1955, she moved to Wichita Falls where Johnny was stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base. She received a Master's Degree in library science from North Texas State University and was a school librarian in Wichita Falls for many years.
In 1964, she and her family moved to Unalakleet, Alaska, where she and Johnny taught in the Bureau of Indian Affairs School. They also built and operated a fishing resort on the Unalakleet River.
Agnes and Johnny returned to Bug Tussle, Texas, in 1976, and she taught English at Campbell for a semester. In 1981, she resumed her teaching career at Honey Grove. She retired from teaching in 1984 and served as an officer for the Texas Retired Teachers Association.
Agnes was an active member of the Church of Christ throughout her life and worshipped with the Oak Ridge congregation. After moving to Paris in 1989, she worshipped at Lamar Avenue Church of Christ. She taught the Ladies' Bible Class for many years and served in the Latch Key program. She enjoyed all of her many visits to
the sick and shut-ins. Her servant heart was an example and inspiration to others. Her children thank her for teaching them to love the Lord.
She was a true homemaker. She was known as an excellent seamstress and found pleasure in sewing for others. Her flower and vegetable gardens were a source of great joy for her. She enjoyed cooking and always received compliments on her meals.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny, and grandson, John Degnan of Unalakleet, Alaska.
She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Virginia Degnan and Charles Degnan of Unalakleet, Alaska, and Nancy Ballard and David Ballard of Pattonville, Texas; grandchildren Jennifer Davis and husband Jack Davis of Anchorage, Alaska, Laura Lawrence and husband Bob Lawrence of Nome, Alaska, Jenni Ballard attending Hardin University in Searcy, Arkansas, and Joey Ballard of Pattonville; great-grandchildren John Davis, Joy Davis, Joanna Davis, and Jessica Davis of Anchorage, Alaska, and Degnan Lawrence, Audrey Lawrence, Ada Lawrence, and Adria Lawrence of Nome, Alaska. She is also survived by her brother and his wife, Newton Churchwell and June Churchwell of Ladonia.
The family thanks the caregivers at Paris Oaks and Spring Lake Memory Care centers for their loving care during the time Agnes was a resident there.

During the Agnes Breedlove Memorial Service, grandson Joey Ballard sang "It is Well With My Soul." Degnan Lawrence, great-grandson, read Romans 8:28. Jack Davis, grandson-in-law, sang "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" and "To Canaan's Land." Jack Davis read "A Beautiful Life." John Davis, great-grandson, read Proverbs 31:10-31. Bob Lawrence, grandson-in-law, offered the closing prayer and conducted the graveside service. Pallbearers were Robert Wayne Milton, Joe Wishard, Tommy Wishard, Steve Cunningham, James Paul Miears, and Jay Spencer.
