C. A. Atherton

Funeral services for C. A. Atherton, well known Hunt County man, who died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. A. Bench, at Celeste, on Thursday, March 26, 1931, were held at Webb Hill on Friday afternoon, March 27, 1931, at 2:00 PM, conducted by the Rev. H. T. Money, of this city, and the Rev. Holloway, pastor of the White Rock Baptist Church, of which the deceased was a member.

Mr. Atherton was born in Ballard County, Kentucky, in 1848. He came to Texas fifty years ago and settled in Hunt County where he has since resided. He was married in 1867 to Miss Sarah Morgan and to this union eight children were born, six of whom survive. Mrs. Morgan died in 1897 and he was married to Mrs. Lou East in 1899, who also preceded him in death in 1930.

At an early age, Mr. Atherton professed faith in Christ and joined the Missionary Baptist Church. He lived a consecrated Christian life and was active in the church work of his community until his death.

He is survived by the following children: Mrs. W. A. Bench of Celeste; Mrs. Jack Bench of Celeste; Mrs. M. N. Watson of Pecan Gap, Mrs. E. R. Samples of Brinkman, Oklahoma; L. C. Atherton of San Antonio; C. E. Atherton of Frisco; and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
