Charles Melvin Hamm, 72, of Lone Oak, passed away Dec. 13 at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., Saturday at Lynch Funeral Chapel, with Brother Eugene Greene officiating.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mr. Hamm was born March 28, 1934, to Guy and Jessie Hamm in Geary, Okla. He proudly served in the United States Army as a teletypist. He also retired from General Motors Co. after 30 years, and was the 61st person to be hired at the brand new plant in Arlington, Texas, where he worked as a receiving manager. He owned and operated Hamm’s Discount Tires in Commerce, Seagoville, Lake June and on Ferguson Road and Loop 12 in Dallas.
He was a devoted member of Lone Oak Community Church. His private swimming pool was proudly used for 30 baptismal services within a five-year time period. He loved animals, especially his beloved “Roxanne.” He was a fanatic golfer and made a hole-in-one at Greenville Municipal Golf Course.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Lydia Vest Hamm of Lone Oak; son, Preston and wife, Lisa Hamm, of Lone Oak; daughter, Debra and husband, Audie Gilbreath of Lone Oak; brothers, Guy L. Hamm Jr. of East Tawakoni, Stanley E. Hamm of Mineola, James O. Hamm of Commerce; grandchildren, Aaron M. and Melissa L. Gilbreath, Michelle K., Jennifer M., and Kaitlin L. Hamm; great-grandchildren, Gabrielle M., Emily D., Lane Scott Gilbreath.
